So......
California is beautiful. Well, not today, but every other day it has been. It is still overcast and a little cool for being almot noon, but every other day the smog/fog/crap has burn off fairly early. I spend my days sleeping in with the aid of earplugs. Except for today, when all the nieces and nehpews had early Fourth of July noisemakers given to them by grandma at TEN O'CLOCK in the morning. sheesh. Plus, I had bad dreams that someone was trying to kill me with a hammer last night. Where did that come from???
I have gotten myself a lovely tan, and am proud to say that I haven't really burned myself once yet. D, on the other hand, is pretty pink. Seems like all we've done here is eat, which is fine with me, except for the fact that I live in a bikini. Oh well, I just keep telling myself there are girls bigger than I in 2-pieces! I think lunch today shall be BJ's, whose Chicago-style pizza is better than the pizza I've had in actual Chicago. And the Pizookie is just so freaking good.
We go to the FunZone everynight and ride rides and play video games and try to win tickets. It's fun to watch the kids get excited about winning tickets. Heck, I love getting tickets too, and every year it's an internal debate with myself whether to give them away or keep them for myself...i'm so selfish!! ha!
we had sushi yesterday at our annual sushi outing. kaylynn tried a piece and then promptly ran outside to spit it in the ashtray, pushing aside an innocent bystander in the process. it was pretty funny!
it always stresses me out before the beach trying to figure out what outfits to bring and what to wear b/c all my sisters in law always have the cutest things, and i always feel subpar. but whatever. i think i'm holding my own this year, even if it's in my own mind.
we have our own room this year, which is SOOOO nice. and we even had our own night of cooking, which makes us feel like grown ups, even tho we aren't really.
there hasn't been much drama yet. no huge fights. but maybe b/c not everyone is here this year. we've played games most nights, which is fun. it's been the best beach week I've ever had! hooray!
my hour at the library is almost up, so i'll have to finish this up. i'm sure i'll have much more to write about when we get back home. that is, if i'm not too busy catching up on biochem homework. ew.

Piggies!

Ok, sorta gross, I know, but look how pretty the pink is! I was gonna do a French pedicure but my big toe was soooo nasty yellow, like old lady toes nasty, and it looked really gross. so i was really sad, but i would have been even sadder to see a nasty yellow toe with a pretty white tip. so i opted for pink. of course!
My secret pal giftee got her package yeterday and posted about it today--she loved it, especially after coming home from jury duty! yay!
Pampered
No longer will I have the ugliest feet at the beach! I'm going to get a pedicure today after class. Ahhhhhh. I can already feel myself relaxing!
In other news, today is the day I need to get everything done before we leave for California. Laundry, errands, start packing....Tomorrow we'll be at the dress rehearsal for Joseph and then Friday we leave! 10 whole days in California, I don't think I can contain myself! I can't wait for the swap meet, Ruby's, BJ's, doing nothing but reading mags and sitting in the sun sipping Cactus Coolers. Heavenly!
I finished the second sleeve last night, and attached all the pieces. What a pain in the neck! The sleeve stitches are so tight, and I'm scared I'm pulling them all out of whack. hopefully when I wash it everything will settle in place. Hopefully I can finish it tonite, all that's left is the decrease rows, and then the last stripe of ribbing. I'm trying to figure out the best way to make it more narrow since I can't really wear it off the shoulder like it's designed. Hmmmmm....
And I still can't decide what project I want to take/start on vacation. Kitchensink, socks, white sweater (I'd need to score more C-E in vanilla), or something else entirely. Any ideas??
Picked up some yummy tinted lip conditioner from MAC yesterday. It has SPF--bonus for the beach--and it sparkles and tastes so good. Great color. Perfect!
In gross news, I'm growing my leg hairs out. Haha. I got that Nair bladeless dealy thing to try Thursday. I hope it works! It would be great to not have to shave everyday we're at the beach. Not that people will be looking at my hair legs---they'll be too busy staring at my gut. ew.
K, gotta get back to work! Much to do!

My herbs!
Look at my herbs!

the big tall one is basil. i can't believe how big it is! but i'm still too scared to actually use it--what if it doesn't grow back!? sticking out from the sides is sage on the right, and dying cilantro on the left. on the chair is thriving cilantro on the left and tomatoes on the right. and in the stripey ones is lavender on the left, and i just planted cosmos flowers in the 2 right ones. i wanted flowers, and those were the prettiest i thought. i hope they grow!
hooray for me and my (quasi) green thumb!

My secret pal rocks!
So my secret pal emailed me last week saying she was sending out a package. !!!! I left for Phoenix on Wednesday and everyday I asked D if it had come yet. Nope. Got home, waited all week, nothing. She emailed me wondering if I had gotten it yet, probably thinking i was this ungrateful biotch, or that i hated it, or something. so i went to the office today to see if anything was there, since i hadn't gotten a notice that i had a package, and there it was!!! i was soooo annoyed, but that was quickly replaced with excitement!!! Look what was in it!

There's a Summer CD from Bath & Body Works, which is awesome. Beautiful birch needles, a retractable tape measure.

These needles are painted in Russia, aren't they so pretty???

And this adorable stuffed sheep with stitch markers on his collar. I wonder if she made them...they are soo cute!
Awesome!! Turns out the office had it this whole time but I never knew about it. lame! i was so happy today tho when i got it! it's so fun to get presents in the mail! I sent my package to the girl i'm spoiling...i wonder if she got it yet! i hope she likes everything i sent!
in other news, here is a picture of a sock i made awhile ago. my very fist one ever. i used ghetto red heart neon green and size 8s. just to see if i could really get thru all the steps. it's not perfect, but it's close enough! i think i could very easily get addicted to making socks!!!

And here's my progress on the striped raglan that i'm working on. let me tell you, working a sweater in the round is sooo much better than seaming it together! however, i'm sure the weaving in of the ends will make me cry. i should have done it as i went. i think i will next time. i'm trying to convince myself to weave everything in before i start the next sleeve. we'll see.

And finally, here's a pic of the Itsy Bitsy that i finished about a month go. I have all the yarn to do the kitchen sink. I think that will be my project next week when we fly to Cali. Hopefully i'll have the sweater done by then, i'm sorta scared to try and take DPNs on the plane!!

Ok, time to clean!

Yarn Yarn Yarn
So the other day I was in Ruhama's shopping for my secret pal and picked up 2 balls of Mission Falls merino, one in a tealy blue, one in a green. Got home and checked her survey, she likes pinks and blues. I was only half off. So I went back today and picked up a skein of something else for her--I'm 99.9% sure she has no idea who i am or even what my blog address is, but just in case of that .1%, i won't say what kind. don't want to spoil the surprise!!!
after that, i went up to The French Knot, another yarn store in the area. It was MUCH smaller than Ruhama's, but the ladies there, Flora and Diane, were suuuuuper nice and helpful. AND their prices are way low!! AND they were having a sale! Everything was 20% off! and all the Noro was 30% off! so, i restrained myself to only buying 2 balls of Noro Kureyon and one ball of supersoft yumminess for my secret pal. i love this spoiling stuff, i don't feel guilty spending money on yarn since it's not for me! ha! but i'm definitely going back to the French Knot. cheap cheap cheap.
i'm working on the sleeves to my striped raglan. no matter how hard i try, i CANNOT get rid of the ladders i am making. i've never had a problem before, and it's making me so mad. i'm hoping that a wash and dry will sorta even out the tension, but i'm not too optimistic. still, it's so cute so far. i'm hoping to have it done by the beach (9 days!!!). it gets cool enough at night that i could wear it. motivation!! funny, since i SHOULD be more motivated to get my fat arse to the gym, so that i look decent in a swimsuit!!! where are my priorities?!?!?!
this getting up at 6 business sucks. i'm tired all day! but i can't bring myself to go to bed at 10 for some reason. D on the other hand, already out, and hour earlier than usual, b/c he has to get up an extra 15 minutes to shave. i have no willpower.
i've decided that now until the beach, i will go the gym, and snack on lots of carrots and avoid sweets. and try and drink only water, and not diet coke, which i think will be really hard for me to do. :/
ah. i guess i shall try and get myself to sleep.
buenas noches!

So, it's been awhile since i've posted. i was in phoenix visiting an old roomie for her birthday. it was sooo hot---i loved it! we went shopping and laid out by the pool and ate. aaah. we went down near Tuscon to see these living caves which was pretty cool, but to be honest, the ones in Puerto Rico are way cooler. Then we went to Tombstone, which was neat, but kinda cheesy and lame, and nobody would tell us what the heck happened there so we went on this dinky little tour. but we still didn't really know. so when we got home we popped in the movie Tombstone, and now we know! except, it's really a corny movie, especially to have all those big actors in it. i thought it was going to be different, but it was still entertaining. lots of shooting.
i started a striped raglan in the airport going down there. it went soooo fast! so fast in fact, that i didn't even think of taking DPNs for the sleeves b/c i didn't think i would get that far. but i did. so before i left we stopped by Joann's to pick some up. but it was the ghettoest of ghetto stores, and didn't have any DPNs. so i got another circ and hoped that i could figure out how to knit in the round using 2 circs all by myself. well, i didn't. so i didn't get ANY knitting done on the flight home. so sad. but that Joann's DID have a pack of DPNs--5 of each of 000,00,0, and 1 for only 10 bucks!! So i had to grab that too! I think i could totally make money off of those on ebay. but i think i'll keep em and try and make socks. but just thinking of knitting with needles that small makes my hands cramp up.
i heard from my secret pal already--and she said she sent a package!! hooray!! so i rush home everyday to check the mail. nothing yet....maybe tomorrow!!!
i've been getting things to send to my secret pal--and so far i think it's a great package! i picked up some yarn yesterday, only to get home and check her blog and realized i guessed wrong on what colors she likes. well, half wrong. so i gotta go back tomorrow and exchange it. i picked up some great patterns for a buck there too. score!
i'm back in school, which sucks, especially since it's from 12-3 every single day, which means i have to drag my butt into work at 7 and leave at 11. ugh. at least it's only for 2 weeks. only 8 more days left!
speaking of school, i should prolly go read my assignment so i don't have to do it tonite when hubby's home.
peace out girl scout!
