Friday's Quiz

I really do want to continue with the Friday Quizzes. In fact, I had already taken one and found out that I am on the same political wavelength as Osama Bin Laden (great) and went to paste the code into my blog only to find out that the code is incorrect. Same thing happened last week. Why can't people write the code correctly?! I can fix minor mistakes, but this was a pretty big code, and I just didn't have the time or desire to stare at it and figure it out. So. I think after, what, 2 successful quiz Fridays, it shall be hereafter be cancelled. Quizzes posted randomly as I please. So much for trying to establish a routine!!

On the bright side, to all the pessimists out there who didn't think using Blingo.com would ever pay out for them, PBBBBTTTTH on you! I just won an iTunes gift certificate! So there! In fact, if you go to blingo.com this very second you will see my name in the margin saying that I just won. See???

Hooray!

In other news, I am contemplating starting my own business. Well, pseudo-business, I guess. If I do it, I'll be sure to let you know. I'm thinking if when I get into nursing school I really won't be able to work full time, but I'll still need moolah. So this would let me do that at my own schedule.

Tomorrow we're going to Six Flags Great America--I'm so excited!! It's only open to Kohl's associates so hopefully there aren't any huge lines--just pure roller coaster bliss all day long.

Happy Friday!!

Butterflies!

So my traffic court session is at 1pm today. I'm so nervous!! I've never had to stand before a judge before!!

Hopefully his morning was filled with punks, and he'll be so relieved to see a nice clean-cut girl he'll drop all my points and lessen my fine.

Cross your fingers for me!

I'll have my people call your people.

Tonite I went out with some friends from church. Dinner and a movie. Lots of fun. These girls are way older than me, my mom's age prolly, but they don't seem like it! They have like at least 4 kids each too. So it was kinda weird that I went out with them, but when we were sitting there laughing and eating, it didn't feel like we had any differences at all. It was great. We saw Flightplan, with Jodie Foster. It was pretty good! Very suspenseful. Bit on my fingers the whole time. Surprising ending. Pretty short too, only 90 minutes. Probably not a must see, but if you're bored, or it's at the dollar theater, or you're looking for something to rent this winter, I'd check it out. I like Jodie Foster a lot though. But man, is she started to look really old!!

So today was our big debut on Oprah!! I watched it on Tivo when I got home. They didn't show us very much at first, but we did get some airtime at the end. And I looked like a complete idiot. I was trying to do this sentimental "awwww" expression and I just look dumb. Head tilted, lame clapping, weird face. Here's a shot of us right after Wynonna performed. That's ME standing RIGHT NEXT to OPRAH!! (On the left, not the dude!) :)

See the head tilt? Sigh.

What was I thinking??? Oh well, you wouldn't really notice unless you were looking right at me. The one thing I noticed as I was watching was how long my hair is!! Especially when they showed us from the back!! It's way long!! Love it! I need a trim big time tho. I'm just scared that they're gonna botch it and take like 7 inches off. And then I'd cry. And then I'd get a stuffy nose, and then I couldn't breathe, and then I couldn't smell my yummy new leave-in conditioner. And that would suck.

Who wants cake???

Happy 7th Birthday, Google!

A "me" weekend

Long time no blog. Ok, it's only been since Thursday, but it feels like forever. Derrick left for Provo Friday morning, leaving me with the whole weekend to myself. It didn't start out so hot, but definitely got better. Friday morning as I was getting ready for work, I got some juice before I hopped in the shower. After my shower, I started to feel really sick. I'll spare you the gory details, and suffice it to say I was hugging the toilet. As I lay on my bed trying to feel better, I thought to myself, I sure could use some juice right about now. Now, if you don't know, I'm addicted to juice. I always have to have some on hand. I think it was living in Florida that did it to me. They had the best OJ around, and my mom always had it stocked in the fridge. And being a non-milk drinker (I know, I know, my bones!!) juice is my breakfast beverage of choice. And lunch and dinner for that matter. But I digress. So I go to get some more juice, and as I'm pouring it into my glass, I look at the pitcher. Which I didn't do before. Obviously. Because all along the inside and up into the lid are big black moldy spots. Everywhere. This grosses me out, and my already overly sensitive stomach decides to once again spew it's non-existent contents. Not a fun morning. So I called in sick to work (drat!) and slept a little more.

By then, I realized I needed a little retail therapy. With the hubby gone, I could go in any store I wanted and not feel pressured to hurry, or hear "You don't need that!" or "You actually LIKE that???". So I shopped. And shopped. And it felt sooooo good. Friday's spoils: 3 shirts, 1 sweater, 2 jackets, 1 purse, 3 pairs of earrings, 1 necklace, and 3 belts. Saturday's spoils: 2 pairs of pants, 4 shirts. Ahhhh. I haven't bought clothes like that in forEVer.

Friday night my friend Whitney and I went out for sushi. Since our hubbies were out eating at all of our favorite places from college, for FREE, we decided we could splurge. It was tres delicioso. Miso soup, Eda Mame, and sushi, sushi, sushi. It was lots of fun, and we just talked and ate and talked and ate. Sometimes, girls nights out just rock. Afterwards, we were driving home and were passing by the mall and decided a Great Wall of Chocolate sure would taste good right about now. So we stopped at PF Changs and got one. Talk about a weekend of indulgences!!

It was a nice weekend to do the things I wanted to do. But it sure is nice to have Derrick back! Especially since he picked up my favorite pink grapefruit sour gummies from the bookstore, and managed to find Golden Griddle syrup. He brought home 4 bottles. That should last us for awhile!! I'm still bummed that they stopped selling it here-without notice, even!! Humph!

Ok, busy busy day at work today. Lots to do, especially since I was out Friday. Le sigh. Time to focus!!

Yum!

Buy this bread. Eat it. Get addicted to it. Never let yourself run out of it.

ETA: I was introduced to this bread by my favorite New Yorkan, (New Yorkite? New Yorkinian?), Erica! Oh, and I guess Jason, too. As soon as we got back from NYC, I went out and bought some. She had yummier butter, so it tasted better, but I still have a ginormous tub to go thru before I need butter again. So....thanks Erica! And Jason! You are my carb heroes!

It is sooo freaking good. And perfect without raisins. Ew. I like raisins, but not in my bread. Flashback memory: When I was little, I called them "ray-rays".

The end.

A Happy Day

Today was Oprah Day!!! Where to start?? First off, we got a grrrrreat parking spot! Hooray! Better than paying $20. Ouch. We get in line to go inside and check in and then everyone waits in this room upstairs. We had these cards with numbers on them so we thought that's how they would seat us. We were 214 and 215, so we were kinda bummed about that. It was hot and we didn't have a chair and we were waiting for like 45 minutes. Finally they start calling us in by names. My name got called pretty early so Ashley and I go down. We walk into the studio, which is amazing, and this girl leads us to our seats. IN THE FRONT ROW!!!! RIGHT NEXT TO THE RUNWAY THAT OPRAH WALKS OUT ON!!! We couldn't believe it. So, they talk to us about what's gonna happen, and how we need to be excited and show emotion, b/c that's how you get on camera. So, we were super cheesy for the next 2 hours. And my hands were tingly from clapping so much. But it was sooooo fun. Ok. So the 2 seats next to me were empty, and everyone was wondering who was going to sit there. Well, Wynonna's (I learned how to spell it correctly) husband sat 2 seats away from me and they sat a girl next to me, telling her that, when Wynonna performs at the end, she will move to the back so that Oprah can sit there. SIT NEXT TO ME!!!!! So, when she walked out, Ashley and I got to shake her hand. And then, when Oprah came to sit next TO ME while Wynonna was performing, I offered her my hand to help her. Then she sat there and we danced in our seats while she performed and then continued to sit there while they did an After the Show segment. It was so awesome!! Everyone got a copy of Wynonna's book, Coming home to myself, or something like that. So, watch Oprah next week, around the 27th they said. On the very front row, on Oprah's side, next to the runway. I am wearing a pink sweater with green shirt underneath, and Ashley has on a pink striped shirt.

Oh, and they interviewed Cojo, who just had a liver transplant, so we got to see him too. I love Cojo!

Since we were go ing to drive by the only Panda Express for miles, we decided to have that for dinner! Icing on the cake!

I won tickets to a sneak peek of Tim Burton's Corpse Bride, so we went to that tonite. All I can say is, eh. Definitely NOT as good as Nightmare. Of course, I did fall asleep for a wee bit during the middle. Very uncharacteristic of me, but I couldn't help it. I was up until 1 am last night finishing the Half-Blood Prince! I could NOT put it down. I was a little disappointed at the ending. I have read so many reactions about it online and expected so much more. I mean, it is pretty huge, but I was expecting someone else. I don't want to give anything away. I did see the trailer for the Goblet of Fire, which looks to be very good. Although very dark. But that's exactly how the book was. I can't wait till all the movies are out so I can buy one big box set of all the DVDs, and get a complete collection of the books. Same with LOTR and Star Wars. Those are must-haves.

Ok. I'm exhausted. And there is much waiting for me on the TiVo. When am I ever going to catch up?? Ahh. This weekend when Derrick is in Provo.

:)

Everyone lived to tell about it!

It's over! We survived! But more importantly, the kids survived! It actually wasn't that bad, once they got over the initial shock of having new people around. We played with Play-doh, My Little Ponies, dinosaurs, watched movies--you know, typical kid stuff. Probably my favorite part was the train ride at the zoo when they all pretended to be going to Hogwarts, complete with Harry Potter-ish accents. Too cute. I myself am in HP land, having been reading the HBP all weekend. I couldn't put it down! I think someone dies, and I can't wait to find out who!!! I'll have to decide whether to read tonite or watch the premier of Las Vegas. Of course, there's always TiVo--so I'm sure HBP will win. Especially if Derrick is watching MNF. Poor guy hasn't been able to watch any sports this weekend! It's like his life force. And he has been slowing dying this weekend without it. Ha.

Friday was a lucky day. I had lunch with Sabahat, whom I hadn't seen since she quit. (Did I use "whom" correctly there? I never know.) Then I got a call from Harpo Studios saying that they received my request for last minute reservations and was I indeed a Winona Judd fan? Of course!! (Who is she again???) ;) Luckily, I had seen her on the show last year where she was dieting and on video diary. So, online, when they asked why I was "Winona's biggest fan", I said, with utmost heartfelt emotion, "As a woman having battled weight issues my whole life, I admire Winona's strength and blah blah she's a role model and yadda yadda she gives me hope blah blah blah". HAHA!! So tomorrow Ashley and I are headed to Chicago to see Oprah!! Hooray!!! Check another goal off the list. So...note to all--go to Oprah.com and check for last minute email reservations! They actually work!

Mondays are so lame. Especially when you start it with a conference call where you are an easy scapegoat to take the blame for others' mistakes. Oh well. Hopefully I'll be outta here in a couple months!

It's rainy and dreary outside. Which would have been perfect stay-in-bed, read Harry Potter weather. Sigh. I feel like shopping.

An update from babysitter land...

We are about halfway through our babysitting stint. It has been an interesting weekend so far!! We went to the zoo today, which was ok for the most part. Well, besides the part where one of the kids realized he had diarrhea but not until after he went in his pants. Joy. Of course, Derrick was having no part of that, so it was I who got to take that one. He owes me BIG TIME.

Only 3 and a half more hours till bedtime.....

HAHA!!

It's Quiz Friday!

You're Granny panties!! Live a little-it wouldn't kill
you! Try something different and kinky next time
you have sex, and try a tutti-frutti condom, too!

Congrats, Mama Britney

I think I am a prophetess. Remember my dream about my baby boy? It was Britney's!!! I knew the sex of her baby before she did!! I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about my powers.

(click on the picture to enlarge and read a personal message from Britney)

As a deep-down, longstanding Britney-lover, I hope for her sake and the baby's sake that Kevin sticks around. Ture, he is sleaze, but a father nonetheless. I can't wait to see pictures of this kid. I heard she had a C-section because she was scared of the pain from giving birth. WTF? What a wimp. Brit, I love ya, but that's what women do, sweetheart! We push out a watermelon-sized kid out of a grape-sized orifice. We're tough! I thought you were "Stronger" than that! Now you're just "Lucky" if you can get those abs back to how they used to be! I know, I know, bad puns.

Everyone, raise a glass in honor of the arrival of Cheeto. Hear, hear!

A Rant and a Rave

Crap like this drives me nuts.

I can understand where they are coming from. Really, I can. I think our society definitely has become more sex-driven, and ads are targeted at young impressionable minds. But c'mon, people. It's the world we live in. You don't like what Spencer's sell? Don't go in there. What? Your kids are playing with the dildos there? Well, maybe you should be home with them. The mall is not your personal babysitter. Don't complain that your kids' minds are being polluted when you're taking no action to prevent it. You don't like Vickie's thongs? Don't buy 'em. Go to Penny's and buy your granny panties. Freak, I don't drink alcohol yet I live in the Beer Capitol of the World. Do you see me petitioning to shut down Miller and make Milwaukee a dry county? No. I can't impose my morals on anyone else. So don't impose yours on me. Honestly, an age restriction to get into a store??? Last time I checked, I still had my first amendment rights. If I wanna go look at birthday cards with naked 500 pound women on them, I can. If I want to buy Mr. Nose for my husband, I can. The Victoria's Secret mannequins are the only way I can get my husband to even GO to the mall with me! Man, I hate these kinds of people. RANT: Stupid old people.

/end rant/

Last night I went to the first meeting of the city orchestra. Wow. It consists of about 10 people! What a joke! There's a couple violins, a viola, a clarinet, another flute, and I think a trumpet. I haven't decided if it's really worth it to drive all the way down to South Milwaukee for it. I do still want to keep playing, but this seems kinda lame.

We are babysitting 3 kids this weekend. Friday thru Sunday. 3 KIDS. 7, 6, and 5. They are sweet kids, but I know they can be a little crazy. Should be an interesting weekend!!! I'm sure by the end of it, Derrick won't want to have kids for another 10 years!!

Sometimes I love being a girl. Yesterday I got my oil changed. I paid $16 cash for it instead of charging 25 on my card, all because of my "sexy ass". HAHA!!! He wanted 20, but I only had 16. So he took it. I'm sure he pocketed it. Fine with me! I'll take a $16 oil change any day! RAVE: Scrub-a-Dub!

Wow, I really gotta pee. I've been holding it forever.

Sad TV News

So, fall sweeps is coming up, and I'm uber excited about it. Summer TV is lame, but really that's OK b/c there's better things to do in the summer besides sit at home and watch TV. But in the winter? TV!! Joey, ER, Martha's Apprentice, Las Vegas, Nip/Tuck, the list goes on. As I was trying to find out when North Shore was premiering, I learned it was CANCELLED!! NO!!!!!!!!! It was one of my FAVORITES!

Hot guys, great plots, Hawaii--how did it get cancelled?? I must have been the only one watching it! How sad. Boo on Fox.

Then, on the radio this morning, I learn that Tina Fey just had her baby, and now she's not going to be doing the Weekend Update on SNL anymore!! It was bad enough when Jimmy Fallon left, but now Tina, too?? I wonder who is going to take her place.

My bet is Will Forte. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Sigh. TV producers are out to get me. What bums.

Hurricane pics

Derrick sent these to me in an email--there were more, but these were the coolest I thought. Supposedly these were taken as the hurricane was arriving in Mississippi.

Crazy. But beautiful, too. Crazy beautiful.

Beautiful people are fakes!!!

This site just totally made my day!!!

Dream

I wish I knew what dreams meant, because last night's was odd. I dreamt that I had a newborn baby boy. But the only thing I had for it was this beat up car seat and an ugly blanket the size of a dishtowel. I didn't have a baby shower apparently, and we hadn't bought anything for it. My baby was super cute tho. (Would you expect anything less???) :) Still, I wonder what it means.

Finally went to the new Crate & Barrel last night. Fell in love with this bed. And I love the linens, too.

But yeah, they got it right: In my dreams!!

I don't know what it is, but leftover tacos just don't taste as yummy as when you eat them at your dinner table. Blech.

Buying stuff

I don't consider myself a materialistic person, but sometimes I feel better when I buy something new. Whether it's for me or the house or whatever. It doesn't even have to be something expensive. It could be a dollar! And I don't even have to be sad or anything--I could be in perfectly happy mood and buy something new and be even more happy!! Retail therapy, I call it.

Is that bad??

The Queen wishes to make an announcement

Hear ye, hear ye! From this day hence, I deem all Fridays to be hereafter known as "Quiz Day". This could mean one, or many. I haven't decided yet. Without further ado, the inaugural quiz:

How to get me to watch football:

Exhibit A:

Exhibit B:

I am SO in love with Tom Brady!!!!!! Like, wow. So sexy. Love him. Want to have his children.

So dreamy...

Adrenaline

So I just got home, Derrick is still at his flag football game and my friend Whitney calls and says "Garrett dislocated his knee and we're in the Emergency Room" but I heard "Derrick dislocated his knee and we're in the Emergency Room". Holy crap I freaked out! I was grabbing my purse and saying I couldn't believe it or something and she's like, "no--wait! GARRETT!!! So whew. Heart rate back down.

But poor Garrett. That totally sucks.

Here's something else that sucks:

This was taken Monday. They've gone down a bit, thankfully, but still. Ouch.

Tomorrow's Friday!! Love that!

Public Service Announcement

I have decided to create another blog, for all things knit and craft related. That way the few people who read it that don't knit won't be bored out of their minds when I talk about my projects or complain about my ribbing. Plus, what's nerdier than having a blog? Having TWO blogs!!

Tuesday, September 06, 2005

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale....

A 3 hour tour in the sky

Rest in peace, lil buddy.

And for old time's sake...

3 day weekends don't come often enough...

I really think the work week should be Tuesday thru Friday. Or Monday thru Thursday. I am fully in favor of working 4 ten-hour days so I can have one extra day off. I did it in college and loved it. If I ever get to be a nurse, I'll only have 3 12s! 4 whole days off! That's reason enough for me!

This weekend was full of football and barbecues. Saturday all the Kohl's/BYU people came over to watch the season opener. Which means all the guys watch the game, and all the wives chat in the dining room while controlling the kids. It was a sad first game for BYU, losing to Boston College 20-3. Watching the games was much more exciting when we actually lived in Provo. There was a certain "buzz" in the air on game day that made it more fun. But I think any sport is more exciting to watch in person. Like baseball on TV? Snore!

On the knitting front, I was happily cabling away on Daneise's chemo cap during the FSU/UM game when my needle broke. Stupid Bryspuns. I hated the join the whole time working with it, and then it just snapped right off. I don't know if they replace them or not. Not that I'd want another Bryspun. I'll prolly just break down and get a pair of Addi's. I wish my Denise's came in smaller sizes. So-thus halted the chemo cap work. I had some Jiffy T&Q so I started a beanie last night on 13s. That stuff is great--instant gratification. I'll prolly finish it tonite. Hooray!

Secret Pal update: Stacy is my secret pal! She finally got her last package from me today. 6 days late, but oh well. She still liked it! She was super fun to shop for and seems like an awesome gal. Hopefully we can get to know each other better now that we're not "secret"! And I decided to break down and sign up for SP6. It was too fun not to do again.

I'm thinking of starting another separate blog soley for knitting. I don't know how many people actually read this, but I think most of them are non-knitters. And the knitting-related content is probably tres boring for them. Hmm...can I really keep up with two blogs??? We shall see.

I'm so excited for the upcoming months. The orchestra, my cake decorating course, and I signed up for a watercolor class! I love being busy and learning new things! Hopefully I can still find time to knit!

Not that I listen to Kanye West, but I think I shall be boycotting him from now on after what happened during the telethon Friday night. What a world class Loser.

A call for advice

OK. So here's my dilemma. When Sabahat quit, this new girl moved into her desk. We are in a quad cube, so I see her all day long, and hear her, which is more the problem. She has a MusicMatch subcription and plays her music really loud. Like, to the point where people across the hall, down the hall, and around the corner have come up to me and complained about how annoying it is. Sometimes it's pop stuff, but most of the time it is either jazzy music, or asian-inspired music. You know, high pitched bamboo flutes--stuff that sounds like what you would find in a Chinese massage parlour. The ones where you can get a "happy ending". You know what I'm talking about. It's at just the right--er...wrong--volume and pitch to drive you insane. She's been here awhile, but is not very chatty with us, almost to point of standoff-ish, so I'm not sure how to tell her without her getting completely bent out of shape. Right now I'm listening to Ike, Everybody Dance Now by C&C Music Factory (love old school dance!) pretty loud, and I can still tell she's listening to Sarah McLachlan.

Give me ideas people!!

Gmail=love

You could call me somewhat of a pack rat the biggest pack rat ever. It's really hard for me to get rid of anything, as for some reason I become emotionally attached to everything I come in contact with. Letters, pictures, pens, papers, cards, dustbunnies, you name it. I am getting better, but like alcoholism, it's a disease that will always be with me. (Note: I am NOT an alcoholic. Although if it weren't for my religion, I think I would be. And probably a stripper. But that's another post.) I am addicted to the internets, more specifically email, and my inbox was always bustin' at the seams---yahoo, hotmail, my inbox was always crowded. Because I never wanted to get rid of a message!! Enter Gmail! You just "archive" it, and it's saved. Out of sight, out of mind. But if I ever need to read it again--for heaven only knows why--I can just google my email and it will find it for me! Hooray! I LOVE having a nice clean inbox. So, my cyberfriends, if there is one thing that I can do for you that will make your life oh-so-much easier, it is to get a gmail account. Yes, I know, changing emails always sucks, and there is that time period where you are checking 2 accounts because there's always Great Aunt Bessie who is just learning to turn on her computer let alone change your email address in her address book, but insists on sending you "jesus-loves-you-and-if-you-don't-forward-this-to-10-people-in-the-next-5-seconds-your-toes-will-turn-black-and-fall-off" emails. But I promise you, it's so worth it. Like getting a boob job worth it. You will be a rock star, this I guarantee you. I have plenty 'o' invites, so ask and ye shall receive!

Come to the G side!!!

Good to know....I guess....

...you know, in case someone ever asks me that...

I am Syphilis. Don't Screw With Me, Or I'll Give You Dementia.
Which Horrible Affliction are you?
A Rum and Monkey disease.
