Crazylegs 8K

Today was our race! We went to bed early and got up early and headed to Madison. I made egg and cheese sandwiches for breakfast which would prove to be successful in keeping the hungries away while we ran. We met up with everyone at a bar near the finish line, then we took a bus to the capitol where the starting line was. We were in wave U to start, and UW football players and the marching band were there to send us off and give us high fives. It was all very exciting. Then we were off! Derrick and I ran together for the first mile, and then we hit a hill and he disappeared. But I kept trucking. And the hill kept coming. But I didn't stop! I was feeling pretty good until around mile 3, where the first water station was. My left knee started KILLING me. Like, I thought I was going to have to stop. I was thinking it was all over. But I kept running through it, hoping that I wasn't doing more harm than good in the process. It stopped hurting after a few minutes, which I was extremely grateful for. I must have missed the Mile 3 marker b/c I was dying and thinking I had only gone 2 miles, but all of a sudden the Mile 4 marker popped up and I got a burst of energy. The last corner we turned is when the stadium came into view and you knew the end was close. I kept going, and passing some people, and that made me feel pretty good too! I "sprinted" towards the finish line with everything I had left and then waited and watch for Derrick. He was only 7 minutes behind me! You cross the finish line on the 50 yard line in the middle of Camp Randall, where the Badgers play, so that was pretty cool. There was fruit and water (althought we couldn't find any water) up in the stands for us. The marching band was there to play for us and it was a big party. Pretty fun stuff. We met up with the Donohues and Whitney back at the bar and got our camera and went back to get some pictures in the stadium. I'm so proud of myself, I didn't walk once! My goal was to finish in less than an hour, and I didn't think I'd make it...but look at our final results!

I averaged faster than a 10 minute mile!! Incredible! I'm super proud of Derrick, too! He did it in less than an hour too! Here's all of us before the race. Check out my sweet Gator shorts!

Stretchin out those hammies!

After! We are still alive!!

Inside Camp Randall after zee race.

So there you have it! Our very first race! It was fun, and I really liked it. But I'll tell you what, when I finished I couldn't imagine running another 8! But in 4 weeks I'll be doing just that! I hope.....

I love sunshine. And the sunshine state.

This week was crazy busy. I've been dying to blog about our trip to Florida but just haven't had the time! It was awesome. The weather was beautiful, and I ate at all the places I wanted to. Friday after we flew in and picked up our rental car we headed straight to Chick-fil-A for lunch then down to the beach. We just drove around a bit for awhile and I showed Derrick my high school and my old house and some other random places. That night we went to a Devil Rays game with Lenora and her baby Evelyn and my friend Dan from high school. It was pretty fun, and I saw where I used to sell Dippin' Dots in the stadium. Good times.

Saturday we went to the beach. All day. It was fabulous. We had lunch at Frenchy's, which is THE place to eat on Clearwater Beach. Yum. After the beach, we went home and showered and Derrick and I went to the first and original Hooters for dinner. Yes, the very first Hooters ever was in Clearwater. Our waitress was okay...a butterface, if you will...

Since Clearwater just got its first Kohl's not too long ago, we of course had to check it out. We walked around the mall for a bit to see what's changed then headed over to Kohl's and met up with Lenora and Gwen. I got some super sweet Gator shorts. You'll see those later... We went to Dairy Kurl for ice cream after the mall, and it's just as good as it ever was. Key lime dipped cone. Delish!

Sunday was church. It was fun to see everyone that I knew and try and remember their names. It's been 8 years! Yikes! I didn't do too bad, though. That night my old YW leader, Suzanne, planned a get together at her house and I was able to catch up with some old friends for awhile. Earlier that day I went and saw some friends from high school, Becky and Scott. We only chatted for about an hour or so before we had to leave, but it was still good to see them. It's funny, they haven't changed a bit. I wonder what they thought about me?

Monday Derrick and I went back to the beach for a couple hours before we had to fly out. We stopped by the mall again to try and catch Tommy at work and swap some of each others stuff we've had for awhile. It was only slightly awkward introducing the former boyfriend to the new husband. Haha. It was still good to see him, even if he was avoiding me the whole weekend.

We hit up Chick-fil-A one more time before we returned the car, then went home to pack. :( Lenora has a Magic Bullet, which I've been coveting FOREVER, so we made some smoothies and played some Nintendo before we left for the airport. Good thing we planned to leave a little early, b/c their car had a flat and we had to change it before we left!! Then it was off again back to Milwaukee. A quick trip, but nice to get away and hit the beach in April. Sure can't do that here!

Hopefully it's not another 5 years before I visit again!

Quickie

I have much to blog about, just no time to do so. Florida was awesome, my nose and ear are peeling, and I'm about 5 pounds heavier, but it was worth it.

I have a paper to write and AI to watch but hopefully I can squeeze some time in for a blog some pics to show y'all.

In the meantime, be glad you weren't the one taking care of a patient with literally a butthole where his bellybutton should be, and you weren't the one responsible for cleaning the poo that oozed out of said butthole all day. Yum yum!

Hump day highlights

I know, it's been awhile. Been too busy this week to blog! And now I'm sick! Just sinusy things, but I still feel crappy. And I'm leaving Friday morning for Florida! I better hurry up and get over this! Let's see...highlights from the past few days...

Got my cavity filled. Spent more time in the waiting room than in the dentist's chair. Easy as pie, minimal drilling, didn't need Ike to pull me through.

Put in my first IV. Only took 2 pokes. Although, the dude was black, so it was a little harder to see his veins, all things considered. So I'll take it with 2. Go me.

Sanjaya FINALLY got kicked off American Idol. I actually cheered.

That's about it. Sending lots of prayers and good thoughts to all those involved with the Virginia Tech shooting. Really, I think the end of the world is right around the corner. No joke.

Happy Birthday!

It's the Wet Donkey's birthday today! 2 years! Or blogiversary...call it what you want. I can't believe it's been two years of internet bliss already. Thanks to all my faithful readers who keep coming back, especially if I've offended you, and I'm sure I have at one point or another! Here's to another two years!

I just ran 7 miles!!! Talk about craziness!!! What's even crazier is that I felt surprising great throughout most of it! The last mile was a little rough but I did it!!

Ok, enough for now. Happy Saturday!

Wisconsin sucks giant balls.

I was all sorts of pissed off this afternoon. Why? Because we got like 6 inches of snow! It took me forever to get to the hospital and I got pelted in the face the whole walk in. I'm sure I looked like a moron holding my lunchbox in front of my face but I didn't care. IT'S APRIL!!!! TIME TO WARM UP!! Why does God hate us? Why? Only 10 more days to Florida, 10 more days...

We booked a trip to Washington DC last night. We got ridiculously cheap tickets into Baltimore, and you can take a 3 dollar bus ride into DC in like 30 minutes. I'm super excited. Scott's gonna meet us out there and Jason and Erica are gonna come down too. We're going the beginning of July, when it'll be nice and hot and muggy. I haven't back to DC in years and years, I think since I last lived in Virginia, like 12 years ago. Geez, that makes me sound old! There's so many things I want to see....I can't wait!

I'm a sleepy gal. Going to bed now.

Self esteem killer

Number of times I've been told I looked tired in the past week: 3
Number of times of those 3 that I've actually been tired: 0
Number of times I've considered just wearing a bag over my head instead of trying to conceal my genetic dark circles: 1,000,000,000,000,000

Who's going with me to get a makeover? Or plastic surgery?

I don't even eat a lot of candy! WTF?!

I had a dentist appointment today. I usually love the dentist. I love the feeling of clean teeth. Today, for some reason, the scraping and digging really got to me. I was wishing they knocked me out. And the worst part? I have a damn cavity! Who gets cavaties these days??? How did I even get one?? I floss, I brush, I do everything you're supposed to! Sigh. So now I have to go in next week and get it fixed. Yippee.

Hope everyone had a great Easter weekend. Ours was good, lots of food, lots of friends, lots of fun. We had our 3rd annual Dinner and Tournament. It keeps getting bigger every year...we need a bigger place! Here are some random pictures:

The dinner table:

Soon to be Mr. and Mrs. Mike and Jessica Spencer (and winners of the egg toss!):

Joel & Whitney:

Cole & Ruth:

Ryan & Paige (and Ashley's legs):

Ryan and Miriam:

Mike, Linda, and Carter:

Us!:

I just wish it were warmer out so we didn't have to run back inside after the egg toss. Maybe next year...

In other news, did I mention that I did win the BYU/Kohl's March Madness pool for the 2nd year in a row?? Don't ask me how that happened, all my other brackets were crap.

And we're running an 8k race in 3 weeks in Madison with our friends Ryan and Miriam! Even Derrick is running in it! It's only 5 miles, so it shouldn't be too terrible. I ran 6 on Saturday, which is the longest I've ever run. I'm working up to 10 before I run the half. Did you notice my countdown on the sidebar???

I need to clean! Have a great day!

My day at Jerry Springer

Where do I begin? We got to Chicago and got in line at NBC studios. As I looked at the crowd around us, I was not surprised as to the type of people I saw. We went through security and they put us in this holding room for about a half hour. Then we finally made it into the studio. There were TVs playing clips from old shows--"Too Hot for TV". Which meant boobies. It was freezing in the studio. So we watched these clips for about 20 minutes before Todd, a producer or whatever, comes out to give us instructions. But the whole thing is very odd--Todd is making crazy dirty jokes and it's unlike any other taping I've been to. And then there are the "Jerry Beads". How come nobody warned me about these? Apparently, a large part of the show consists of people flashing everyone and getting beads for it. So, people would raise their hands and ask for their Jerry beads. Then everyone chants "Take it off! Take it off!" and they have to flash everyone and slowly turn around so everyone gets a shot. Then everyone chants "Get on the pole! Get on the pole!" and they go up onstage where there is a firepole installed and these classy ladies rub their naked boobies all over it. I saw more boobs yesterday than I have in a long time. Heck, after that, I didn't even want to look at MY own boobs. Anyway, Jerry comes out and does this stand up routine bit for awhile. Random jokes, some are funny, some are lame, some are dirty. Then he has a question and answer session, so I raise my hand and ask for MY Jerry beads. Just kidding! I asked to give him a hug. He said yes so I ran onstange and hugged him, and the sound effect guy made this "boi-oi-oi-oing!" sound effect and Jerry squeezed me and everyone laughed. Then the next two people really asked for their Jerry beads and then he told me that I must feel stupid b/c all I offered was a hug. I said that at least I still had my dignity. Haha. So finally they bring out the guests, and the topic was "Fighting ex-lovers". Pretty much all it consisted of was fighting. Fighting was encouraged. Weaves were pulled off, shirts taken off, cracks exposed, you name it. And they made us chant "Charge him like a bull!" so the big fat guy would go after the little guy. I was sitting right next to where Jerry stood when he came back after commercial breaks so I may possibly get a lot of screen time, we'll see. The whole time the guests are just fighting each other and Jerry makes random comments and I hear him mutter under his breath, "this is pathetic", "why am I doing this?". I look up at him at one point while people are flashing and say, "You must be so proud!", and he just shakes his head and grabs my shoulder and says, "Oh yes, I am" while he laughs. It was funny. This whole time, all I really want to see now is Steve. But he's nowhere to be found. Well, he comes out at the end, and after the taping is over everyone leaves the studio and you can buy T-shirts and Jerry beads and headshots and Steve will sign them for you if you go back into the studio. We make friends with the bouncer dudes and they let us skip to the front of the line so we can take pictures with Steve first and not have to wait. This is when my camera decides to die and I don't get a picture on my camera with Steve. I'm still waiting for my friend to email it to me, but when she does, I'll post it, b/c it's pretty sweet. I did get some secret sneaky background shots of him though. Steve's pretty buff, and he has a sexy bald head. And I hugged him too. He was shocked to find out we were all so young and all either married or engaged. He wanted us.

I don't know when it airs, you have to call this hotline on Friday to find out. But don't you worry, I'll let you all know. It was a very random day, but very funny. At times I felt like I was in a den of iniquity, satan's lair, Hell, call it what you want. I'm just glad the topic wasn't "My secret sex life" or something like that. Yeah, like I can expect my grandma to watch that! Anyway, if you are not easily offended and like seeing old wrinkly boobies and small nasty boobies and lots of mullets, I would highly recommend going to a taping. To be honest, the only other people I could imagine going to this were:
1-Scott
2-Jason
3-My friend Sara

Everyone else would die of horror.

Here are some pics from yesterday, but remember, the best are yet to come.

Waiting in line to get into the building.

Me on stage.

All of us onstage.

Trying to get a sneaky shot of Steve. He was onto me.

And yes, that is a side ponytail. You know you love it. I rocked it.

Dub-T

I wish I had time to fully describe my day, but you will just have to wait until tomorrow. Suffice it to say, the day was full of boobies, fights, and laughing. Just you wait.

AND.....

IT'S GREAT TO BE A FLORIDA GATOR!!! That's two years in a row, baby!! All I really cared about was not winding up dead last in the Kohl's pool, which I didn't. I moved up one space. So next to last. Hooray! Go Gators!!

I let myself down yesterday

I tried to think of something clever and funny to make up for April Fools Day to fool you all. Alas, I'm not that creative or clever or funny. The best I could do was rubberband the nozzle of the sink sprayer so when Derrick turned on the water it came straight out of the sprayer instead of the faucet and soaked him. It was pretty funny, and would have been even better if I hadn't forgotten I did that and soaked myself. So, all in all, a pretty uneventful April Fools Day. Maybe next year.

Last week I borrowed "A Lot Like Love" from my friend Courtney. It has Amanda Peet and Ashton Kucher. It's sooooo good! I loved it. Great music. And I've realized I have the hots for Ashton. Especially after "The Guardian". Somehow I feel like a 13 year old girl.

I've bought maybe 2 CD's in the past 10 years. Friday, I bought 2, doubling my number. Which CDs? Where did I buy them? A Queen cover CD and songs from Desperate Housewives (don't laugh). At the Dollar Tree, no less! Ha! Even if they sucked, it was only 2 bucks! The Queen CD is actually pretty decent. Plus, it has the Bohemian Rhapsody cover by Constantine Maroulis--remember my fave from American Idol???? The one I actually saw in concert?? He was totally giving me the eye the whole time. He wanted me. I can't lie. :)

Well, I gotta get moving...going to Springer today!!!
