Fall means new TV shows, which means I don't get anything done around here. I don't usually watch new shows, but since I feel so left out when people rave about awesome new shows, I decided to give some new ones a spin. OK, actually just one--Bionic Woman. Not really sure why I picked this one. I never watched the first one, so I have no idea how it compares. I can't really form an opinion after just one episode, but it looks interesting enough to watch again. I'm waiting for Carpoolers to start, which looks pretty funny. Oh! I also watched Private Practice, the Gray's spin off show. If Addison can stop being such a freak, it might be good. We'll see. Other shows back on that I love: SNL (which I'm currently watching), The Office, ER, The Bachelor, Survivor, America's Next Top Model, Gray's Anatomy, Beauty and the Geek. I think I'm probably missing some.
Current obsession: cheese, avocado, and salsa quesadillas. mmmmm.....
The leaves are changing here. It's really pretty, but at the same time really depressing. Cold and snow are just around the corner. We leave for Denver on Thursday for a wedding, and I'm guessing the leaves and scenery will be beautiful. I hope so! Any hot spots in Denver we should hit up? Derrick's never been, and I've only been once, so we'll take any suggestions!
School is still sucking.
In my attempt to be healthier (and slimmer) I've been eating a lot of fresh fruits and veggies. I've had a baked potato for lunch every day, and instead of sour cream I use cottage cheese. Sounds gross, but it's actually pretty good. And much better for you than sour cream. Although, sour cream DOES taste way better. I even got some tofu and have been using that as a topping as well. Yum. Unfortunately, all of these diet changes are wreaking havoc on my innards. Just ask Derrick.
I could really go for a quesadilla right about now...fast Sunday tomorrow! Gotta get it in quick!

Yay!
So I've been submitting my resume all over the internet to start looking for a job. Well, I just call a call from a recruiter saying they want an interview!!! It's all set up for next Wednesday afternoon!
I'm probably over-excited about this, but I can't help it! I'm really on my way to becoming a nurse!
Yikes!

Mish mash
I guess ugliness sparks lots of comments! I love it.
We had a super chill weekend. I sewed a lot. My quilt is now 5 squares by 3, and not bad if I may say so myself. I need to take a picture of it. September is National Sewing Month, did you know that? I didn't. But it is for me for sure!
Watched Rocky Balboa. I heard it was really good. But I thought it was really cheesy. The fight scene was decent. Derrick slept through it. Surprise, surprise.
Made a really yummy peace pie, courtesy of the recipe over at Rose's Kitchen, for a ward party. Had really good chili.
BYU lost again. Last week Derrick said, after their loss, "I don't know if I'm turning a new leaf, or if I don't care anymore, but I don't get all worked up about it anymore. I just accept the fact that they're going to lose. It's so sad." Poor guy.
Derrick went to WWE Raw tonight with some guys from work. Supposedly he wore a wrestling shirt to it. Classy.
Today started my new healthy eating habits. I bought lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and healthy snacks. I did great all day, and then Linda called and invited me to Chili's while Mike and Derrick were out. I'm a sucker for Chili's. And the flavor of the day at Culver's was Chocolate Eclair, which is my #1 all-time favorite flavor. It was really hard, but I resisted. Instead I ate Natural Cheetos at home. Maybe tomorrow will really start my new diet....

My life as a cover girl? No. My life as an ugly girl.
After many phone calls with Dell.com, we finally got our printer yesterday. Hooray! I had forgotten how convenient it is to be able to print something when you want it, instead of saving it to a flash drive, then opening it up on our dinosaur computer, and then waiting for the system to move, and then print it. The wonders of technology. However, our printer is also a scanner and copier. What fun! I scanned in a few already. I debated whether or not to post some of them, knowing I will get ripped for the rest of my life about them, but hey, that was me--what can I do about it now? Let me take you through a little tour of my life....
We start out at what was a turning point in my life. I was playing tetris on the original Nintendo, when I realize I couldn't really see my score that well. Cut to me at the eye doctor, learning I need glasses, and me picking the biggest, fattest, bluest plastic glasses ever created. Seriously, they take up more than half of my face. Keep in mind I am in 5th grade here, old enough to know that one should not wear glasses like this. But what did I know? I loved them. By the way, where were my parents or my friends on this one? Why didn't they tell me they were hideously ginormous? It was 1992 I suppose, but still, is that really an excuse??

Fast forward 4 years and the arrival of my first stake dance. My mother is lucky enough to have "wash-n-wear" hair. However, her daughter was not blessed as such. But she did not tell me this. Does this look like hair that can just be washed and left alone?? Even my own father commented that I had "Brillo-pad hair." Real nice. Hence, I will spend the next several years of my life having no clue what a hair dryer is, or that hair can be silky and smooth. Oh, and don't forget the fact that from my neck up, I look like a mushroom.

Somehow, despite all of this, I manage to make a friend. Please note my two lower appendages. They are like toothpicks. How they managed to support the upper half of my body is beyond me.

Even more miraculous is I manage to score and secure a boyfriend in high school. He wasn't even in the A/V club. The time comes for our first dance, Silverbell. With a mouth full of metal and the notion that center parts are acceptable, I go and have a decent time. And no, just for clarification, that is not my date.

I survive high school without any public stonings or shunnings and make it to BYU. Time for another dance. This time, it's Homecoming. I wear an old prom dress, and with the addition of a jacket to hide my bare shoulders, have a terrible night with a terrible, creepy date. The mushroom is back, but this time more subtle. Again, where are my friends?

At this point I realize dating is futile, and do just about everything possible to avoid being asked out. Including:

And the lesbian cut:

This truly was a mistake for the ages. Do I look even remotely decent with short hair? No. The answer is no. So anyone who even suggests that I should cut my hair short should really be shot. But moreso than the cut, is the growing out process. I suffered with a mullet for longer than anyone should.

Luckily for me, my friends still wanted to hang out with me despite my terrible choices. We always had a great time at the football games. I always cheered along with the cheers, but no one ever asked me if I was ever a cheerleader in high school. It was obvious I wasn't.

Living with girls started to have a positive effect on my appearance, and I started to get asked out on some dates. Even if they were with hicks. Actually, these guys were our really good friends, and told us to dress up nice b/c they were taking us something really fancy. They showed up wearing Wranglers and cowboy shirts, and took us to the Sizzler. It was pretty funny.

Eventually my transition to a reasonable looking person somehow led to this:

Our escapades to Club Access, a private club for members, were frequent. It wasn't long before this guy showed up:

Luckily for me he didn't show up a mere 1 year earlier, or I can pretty much guarantee we would not be married right now.
There is one thing I'd like to point out, however. My eyebrows. Yes, those are eyebrows, and not caterpillars hanging out on my forehead. How is it possible that I never attempted to tame them before college? It's truly astounding. My eyes were opened to the invention of tweezers, and before long, they were almost non-existent. Step in threading, and now I live a life where eyebrows are a normal size and look identical to each other.
The moral of the story is: Help your child out. Help a friend out. Help a sista OUT! I know every kid has their awkward phase, but with your help, it can be less awkward. Please. Do it for me.

Gripes
I am having a really really really really really hard time getting into this last semester. I cannot focus. I don't want to do anything. To make it worse, all the work we have to do in every class is group work. I'd rather chew my own hand off than do group work. Seriously. To top things off even more, my clinical group of EIGHT is doing a project and nobody has any idea really what it's about. Then there's the fact that everyone is such a great "leader" that they all bite each others heads off all day. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians. And me? I just sit there and watch the drama unfold. I could really care less who types up the damn report, or who gets to use their article, or blah blah blah. I put in my two cents when I need to, I do what I'm asked, I contribute, but only for the sake of getting the heck out of there. It drives me nuts. I mean, I wouldn't be so against group projects if they had a purpose. But really, they don't. Not at UWM. Their curriculum says we need a group project, and even if that group project means we all sit around and discuss our latest poops, they make us do it. It's so pointless. Graduation is not coming fast enough for me.
I'm starving. But the leftovers congealing in the fridge do NOT look appetizing to me. Combine that with the fact that Derrick is being taken to Mr. B's tonite, and that just makes me even hungrier for yummier food. What I'm really craving is the chopped salad from The Cheesecake Factory. Yummmmm. But going alone would be lame-o. Although I am planning on going to see a movie tonite by myself, so I should just consider it a date with myself and go all out. Hey, someone's gotta do it, right?
In case you didn't know, today is Talk Like a Pirate Day, matey. I'll share a pirate joke in honor of this blessed day, courtesty of Chris, who has many more pirate-y jokes for your swashbuckling pleasure.
Q: Do you know where my buccaneers are??
A: On the side of my buccan-head!
ZING!

Wheel of Misfortune
As you can guess, we didn't get a chance to audition. Lindsey and I got to Steinhafel's pretty early, at 9:20. We waited in an already huge line until 10 when they started herding people in and passing out applications. They usher us though the showroom floor into a giant warehouse floor. The stage was set up in the front. At 11 they started and introduced everyone and then calling up people in groups of 5. The "Pat" host was suuuuper annoying. He spent FOREVER asking the people their names and what they like to do and blah blah blah. Then they played a Speed Round until someone won, and then called another group of 5 up. They called about 5 or 6 groups up, and when we realized we weren't going to get called, we left. We could have waited for the 3rd group of auditions, but we were so annoyed at the host and the whole thing that we left. But not before we got some sweet pictures.
My quilt is coming along quite nicely. All I want to do is sew, but I can't, because I have homework and other lame things to do, like cooking and cleaning. If I had my way, I'd get to stay home all day and do crafty things. Sewing, knitting, cooking, baking, photographing, etc. That would be sweet.
My fantasy football team lost last night. So sad. To a team that I'm sure hasn't even been looked at since it was formed. That's not fair. :(
I had lots to blog about. But I forgot it all.

Why am I always the last to know???
I know I'm 4 years late in catching this train, but I am obsessed with this Album:

My interested was piqued when they were on The O.C. (which I have NOT had time to watch latey...boo!), and then when I was in Utah I uploaded the CD from a friend. I've been listening to it non-stop. I love it when I find CDs like that. A CD where every song is great. Where I never get tired of listening to it. It also reiterates to me that this genre of music is really my favorite. I've also been hitting the Foo Fighters "In your Honor" album pretty hard latey, too. They are fabu.
Last night I hosted a knitting night. Only 6 people showed up, but I don't know if I would have had room for more! Everyone learned the basic knit stitch, and I was the proud mama. Although ARL mostly sat and looked at the needles like they were a calculus equation. Amy--I KNOW you can do it!! If it were up to me, I'd have everyone I know knitting and obsessing over new yarns like I do. I can't wait to be done with school and boards and knit in the winter like I used to. 92 days....
Yesterday in my clinical I saw some clients at an Adult Literacy Center in the inner city. It was really interesting, actually. However, I think community nursing is NOT for me, if only for the fact that I can already tell I will get too attached to the patients and want to save them all by myself with my own resources. Not a good idea! It's been a huge eye opener to see people that really do not have a place to live. No food to eat. No family to love them and support them. They're trying to do good for themselves and get their GED, get a job, get medical insurance. Makes me realize I have it way too good. There's so much inequality out there, and no real solution to any of it. It's a sucky situation.
I bought fabric to make a quilt yesterday. The only problem is I've never successfully made a quilt on my own! If anyone would like to be my tutor, I can graciously pay in baked goods!I love the colors I picked out, I just hope I can translate my imagination into something decent.
Well, Friday IS my day to get tons done, so I guess I should get to doin'!
Hope everyone's Friday is grrrrrreat!

Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding!
I feel like my readers truly know me! I did pick #2! Hooray! The world makes sense once again. In picture #1, I have ginormous veins running down my forehead. I have never noticed these bad boys before. #3 has crazy head tilt. Why do they do that??? And #4, I think, has "anime mouth". Look closely and you'll agree. In case you're not hip with your Japanese cartoons, I'll show you an example:

See???
You all know I am a Price is Right fan. Actually, I am a fan of all things game show. Growing up my mom never let me watch game shows for some reason. So I would be super excited when I did get to watch one. I loved Press Your Luck epecially. Who doesn't love those Whammies?? Well, imagine my delight when I get an email from The Wheel of Fortune (I do subscribe to their Wheel Watcher Updates, you know) telling me they are auditioning here in Milwaukee on Saturday!! You bet your buns I'll be there! Derrick seemed less than excited when I told him. Bum. I told him I'd go alone, I don't care. But, I am officially inviting anyone in the Metro Milwaukee area to go with me Saturday from 11-2 at the Waukesha Steinhafel's. Who's with me???

Now I just need to get on Jeopardy! to round out the trifecta. I might have a shot at the high school championships....

Chilly
It was freezing today. That just ain't right. It's only Sept. 10th!! And it rained all day long, which was annoying since I had errands to run around campus today. At least it's not snow!!!! Yikes! I said the s-word! Haha..."I'll take swords for 200, Alex!" Anyone, anyone??
I submitted my application for a Wisconsin work license today. Eeep! It's all becoming very real that I'm actually graduating! We got our picture proofs back. Which do you think I should pick? (I already did pick, but I'm curious what everyone else thinks.) I have an issue with each one. So, number down, 1,2,3,4.

I'd much rather be in bed right now, but Derrick informed me this evening that it's another "food day" tomorrow and I need to make him something. So here I am, at 11:30 waiting for cookies to cool so I can package them up. I'd much rather be sleeping, considering I have to be up in 6 hours, and I don't do will with much less than 9 hours of sleep....
If you're lusting for some man-candy, may I suggest a trip over here. Delightful. And he scored me 24 fantasty football points this week, securing my week one win over Scott and his team, the Harlinian Falcon. Eat it, Scoot!

MENSA quiz
Derrick brought home this quiz from work for me, since he knows I love to do these kinds of things. And I do. I challenge you to do it, WITHOUT GOOGLING ANYTHING. No cheating. Print it out and do it at your table or whatever. Here's what it says:
You have to work out what the letters mean. See No 0 as an example. According to MENSA, if you get 19+ of these, you are a "genius". Only 2 MENSA members achieved full marks. See how well you do.
Scoring: 1-5 is Average, 6-11 is Somewhat Intelligent, 12-18 is Intelligent, 19+ is Genius.
What did I get? 27. Derrick gave me a hint on a few which I did not count. Nor did I count the first one, No 0. And Derrick can vouch for the fact that I did not cheat! I knew it! I AM A GENIUS!!! Ok, here you go!
0) 24 H in a D (24 hours in a day)

It's Official
Football season has officially begun. We had our fantasy draft Wednesday night. Let's hope my team pulls out some big wins. Of course my QB is Tom Brady, that was a no brainer. I have Chicago DEF, who did pretty great for me last year. I couldn't tell you anyone else. Fantasy Football is the only way I make it through the winter. It keeps me interested in the games and makes the loss of my husband to sports a little easier.
I got sick last night. Like, in the space of an hour. One minute I'm feeling fine, the next I have a sore throat, then the next I'm all stuffed up and feeling like poo. I don't know if it's a summer cold (lame) or a sinus infection (lamer). Either way, it sucks.
I never posted pictures of the napkins I made. Here you go:

What should my next craft endeavor be?? Not that I'll have time this semester...

Home at last!
Well, the rest of our trip in Utah was great. Saturday we hit up Beto's for a breakfast burrito. Unlike Cafe Rio, Beto's hasn't changed a bit. Well, except the name: now Rancherito's. Lame. But still deliciously greasy, heavy, and stuffed. Yum.
We headed over to the game and checked out the tailgate stuff and my personal fave, the Cougar Marching Band! Yay! A little "When the Saints go Marching In" and the fight song and we were ready to find our seats. They were the last row in the north endzone. Let me tell you, there are about a million steps to get up there. On top of the dozens of roundy ramps you have to hike to GET TO the stairs. Going up and down to fetch drinks was killer, and I sure felt it in my legs the next day. Sad, but true. We were in the scorching sun the WHOLE game, sitting next to not very slim, and not very good smelling people. Not pleasant aromas up there. But, the game was fabulous. BYU won, and even though it wasn't a shutout, it was really fun. Really fun to be back on campus, fun to be at a game, fun to see all the kids in their mini cheerleading and football player outfits. Too cute. Ty Detmer's jersey was retired, and I'm almost certain Derrick sprung a tear watching it. He loves that guy. Like, really loves him.
After the game, we went to a pizza place Scoot loves then we saw License to Wed at the dollar theater. It was decently funny. Mandy Moore is cute. Of course, I made the guys take me to Provo FroYo. Cheap and good.
Turns out, Maria and Skyler were in Utah too! So on Sunday, we met them up in Alpine at Skyler's sister's house and had dinner with their family and hung out and played outside. It was really fun. We played Skyball, which consists of Skyler throwing a nerf football as high as he can and the kids and I try to catch it "for cash and prizes," which turns out to be Wendy's gift certificates. I did not catch a single one. Frowny face. Then there was the dunking contest. Always a good time. I also got to meet Tanner, who is just as cute in person as he is in pictures. What a charmer!
We took the Alpine Loop, which was beautiful. The Aspens were sooo cool! I took a ton of pictures. Ridiculous amounts, really. A nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Monday we left. After a layover in Denver, and me almost dying of starvation, (which is beyond me since I ate enough the past 10 days to last me a year) we made it back to Milwaukee. Minus our bags. Great. So we went home without them, but with two $25 Midwest vouchers. Cheapos. This wouldn't have been such a big deal if I didn't have to take my graduation composite pictures the next day. All of my hair and makeup stuff in somewhere in between here and Salt Lake. My hair is filthy, but I can't wash it b/c I don't have my blow dryer. I have a monster zit on my face that I can't cover b/c my arsenal of concealer is missing. Somehow I manager to scrape up some old mineral makeup and eye shadows, borrow an eyelash curler, throw some baby powder in my roots, and look presentable enough to leave the house for the first day of school. Now I just have to wait to get the proofs back and see just how bad they are.
Time for a nap!

Yes, I am alive!
I'm back online! Hooray!
Some updates:
We got outbid on the house we offered on. It was a bummer, but we were surprisingly not devastated about it. Maybe being in America's Playland softened the blow. We had been praying a lot about the house, and we got our answer. The foundation would probably have crumbled the day we closed!
Had an incredible time in Vegas. I got to spend 5 days with one of my besties, Sara. We had a blast. Seriously. Celebrity sightings: 5. Jay-Z, Travis Barker, Shop Boys, Stat Quo, Gene Simmons. Oh, make that 6. That chick from the Apprentice that chose to go home early b/c her mom was sick. Lemme look her up...Heidi. Pictures to come. We ate lots of good food, and saw some awesome shows. Sara and I went to the Bodies Exhibit, which was amazing. As if I didn't have a big enough appreciation for the human body, this made it even bigger. Some seriously cool stuff. If it travels near you, check it out fo sho'.
Vegas changes I wasn't digging:
The Barbary Coast is no longer.
5 reel slots. Where are the 3???
The Sirens show at TI. TERRIBLE!!!
Things about Vegas I still love:
Free drinks
The water show at the Bellagio
People watching
The lights
We drove up to Provo today. Met Maika for lunch at Tucano's (YUM) and then walked around campus. So many changes! School starts on Tuesday, so the campus was buzzing with new students and parents. It was fun to see them all. Although some of those kids looked waaaaaay too young to be starting college!! Makes me feel so old!! We checked out the new Hinckley Alumni Building, which is beautiful, and has an amazing visitors center. Very cool building. After a quick trip to Sonic we finally headed home to Scott's house. We hung out for a bit then I drug the guys to the church distribution center to pick up the hymns on CD and other random churchy things. We met Antony for dinner at Cafe Rio, (which, in my opinion, is NOT NEARLY as good as I remember it. I think they changed the sauce. I was very disappointed. The tres leches cake, though, is great.) We got our computer from Antony, which works great!! Thanks again for finding us a great little computer for a fantastic price!! And sorry for all the British comments! ;)
We saw License to Wed tonite at the dollar theater. Pretty cute movie. Almost the entire cast of the Office is in it. Except for Pam and Michael. And Dwight.
It's weird to be back in Provo and not be a student. Walking around, I kept thinking that one day I'll be bringing my 18 year old up for their freshman year of college. That'll be fun. And sad!
Tomorrow's the big game! We picked up our BYU blue t-shirts and we're all ready to go. Now all we need to do is win!
I'll find my card reader later and post some pictures. It's sad...almost all of our friends have moved away, so we don't really have many people to visit while we're here. More time to relax, I guess!
Let's go Cougars!
