Cravings
I am not what I would consider a Diet Coke addict (although I'm sure Derrick will try and argue that), but lately all I have wanted is a Diet Coke with Lime. A nice, icy cold can. Alas, for the sake of my unborn child I have sworn off caffeine for the time being. (I'm sure subsequent children will not be so privileged.)

Dilemma
As I have now reached a whopping 24 weeks of pregnancy, I realize I have much to do to prepare for this kid. I've had to ponder many, many things. Which carseat/stroller is best? What type of crib do I want? Cloth or disposable diapers? Bassinet or no? Make or buy crib bedding? But I'll be honest, the one thing that worries me more than anything? The state of my blog after birth. I will probably offend many out there, but I really don't want my blog to be only about the super awesome cute/funny/scary things my baby does. But on the other hand, I want the people who care (grandparents, family) to know what's going on with her, too. It will be a delicate balance to achieve. Because I'll be honest, there are some blogs out there that outline every mundane detail of their days, and it is painfully boring. But I read it b/c they're my friends. I don't want people to read my blog out of obligation.
My blog could very well be only about pregnancy right now, b/c that is pretty much what occupies my thoughts these days. But I realize that's interesting really only to me, so I don't write much about it. Then I think, heck, it's my blog! I should write what I want! This blogging business is all very complicated.
So. That being said, I will indulge in a somewhat pregnancy post. I'll even post a picture! Things are going great so far. I had an appointment on Monday and everything is going just as it should. She kicks a lot, which I love. She is more active at night...just like her mom! I gained as much weight in the past 4 weeks as I did during the first 20. Looks like it's all starting to catch up to me!
We've (I've) started to buy more things for her...mostly clothes and random things for the nursery. It's weird to see all these baby things in our apartment.
Mostly, though, I'm just excited to see what she looks like. I'm nervous about the delivery. I'm hoping I'm strong enough and she's cooperative enough so I can have the natural delivery that I want. I'm hoping she's a good eater, right from the start. Speaking of eating, the lovely
Kara, who is due in a mere 2 weeks, hosted a little sewing group today where we sewed nursing covers. Hooter Hiders, if you will. A side note about Kara: this girl never stops. She's amazing. I'm sure she'll be cooking up casseroles and sewing halloween costumes while she's still in the hospital. Seriously. Plus, she looks fabulous for being due any day!! Anyway, it was fun to get together and sew and chat, and we all made such cute covers! Check mine out!
It's reversible, and I love the fabrics. Now I want to make a brown one. You know, one black, one brown...they'll go with everything!
Being pregnant has made me reeaaallllly tired all the time. So, even though it's only 9:30, I think I'll be going to bed now. I work the next two days, so I know I'll need the extra Z's!
But hooray for having the weekend off!

Recent things I'm excited/obsessed about
1) My 8-week photography class that starts tonight! Linda and I are taking it together through the City of Milwaukee Recreation Department. I hear it's a pretty decent class, so I'm super excited about it. Don't be surprised if you're bombarded with pictures over the next 8 weeks!
2) Cream cheese butter mints. These are sooo yummy. They melt in your mouth and are seriously deeeeelicious!
3 oz cream cheese, softened
1 Tbsp butter, softened
3 cups powdered sugar (I use a little more...1/4-1/3 cup more otherwise they're too sticky)
1-2 drops peppermint oil
food coloring paste
Mix the cream cheese, butter and sugar together in mixer. Add oil and coloring. Roll into balls, press down with a fork dipped in powdered sugar. Let dry 2-4 hours on wax paper. Fridge or freeze.
3) Bath and Body Works' Wallflowers in "Leaves." Smells sooo good! Perfect for fall. Love it.
4) Fall TV! Survivor, Amazing Race, ER, The Office, they're all coming back! All, except for Las Vegas. So sad. No more dates with Josh Duhamel on Friday nights. They always cancel the good ones. Although Derrick (and probably everyone else) will disagree, saying it was a dumb show. What do they know?

Losing loved ones
It's always hard to see people you love leave. They've been with you through thick and thin. Always there to make you smile, make you laugh. These past couple weeks I've lost 2 dear friends, and it's been pretty hard for me, to be honest. I've kept it bottled up for awhile, but now I just have to get it out. There's really nothing I can do to bring them back, and accepting that they're gone has been the hardest. Seeing their faces makes me ache inside, knowing it will be a long time before I see them again.
Most of you know the people I've lost. Perhaps you've lost them too. I can't even decide which loss hurts the most, they were both pretty equal in my eyes.
Yes, Tom Brady. My #1 draft pick (like always). My one and only quarterback. My everything. Out for the season in the first 20 minutes of his very first game of the season. It's heartbreaking. Not only will I be missing those fantasy football points, I'll be missing that tight little tush in those tight little pants each week. Sigh. My only consolation is that Aaron Rogers is my backup and has had a pretty decent showing so far. Let's keep it up A-Rog.
My other loss: Tivo. With our new TV comes a new receiver, full of HD capabilities. Our old receiver, purchased when Tivo and DirecTv were still partnered, had to go, and in comes their new DVR receiver. IT SUCKS. I miss my little Tivo man. His little, bloop, bloop, bloop! sound effects. His ease of use. Sure I love the extra recording room and the beautiful crystal clear HD picture, but I pretty much don't love everything else. The new remote is so not user friendly. I I can't watch 2 shows simultaneously as easily anymore. Usually I love change, but when it's a step backward, I don't dig it. Word on the street is that Tivo is in talks of reconnecting with DirecTv again, and you better believe I'm getting a new Tivo receiver as soon as I can.

Beware, little animals
My car is a roadkill magnet. A few weeks ago I hit a squirrel, and the other night, in the SAME PLACE I HIT THE SQUIRREL, I hit a possum. An opposum? Either way, I swerved and braked this time, and his little red eyes looked up at me, and then THUMP THUMP! He was dead. So sad.
So little forest animals, take heed. If you see a large, menacing, light purple Toyota Corolla on Bradley Rd, just stay on the curb still I pass.
I'm starting to get a complex when I drive that stretch of road.

Seattle
This past weekend we were in Seattle for the BYU/Univ. of Washington game. I have never been to Seattle before, heck, it was my first time to Washington! I loved it! We got in Thursday night and stayed with Maria & Skyler. It was so fun to see them and their two boys. Maria showed us around Snoqualmie Falls, which were very cool, and very big, and right in the middle of a town. So bizarre! We stayed up way too late talking, but it was fun to catch up with them.
I could give you a play by play of everything we did, but I'll just list some highlights, and then throw in some pictures. By the way, I added picasa albums to the sidebar, so if you want to see the rest of them, you can check them out there. Thrilling, I know.

It was a fab, fab trip. The weather was amazing, not a drop of rain, and everything was gorgeous. So green. I pretty much fell in love with Washington and Seattle!
And why is it that when I travel, I can never poo? Something about not being in a familiar environment always stops me up. That's the only downside to traveling. Boo on the no poo.

- We went to the top of the Space Needle (very cool views)
- We went on a Duck Tour (easily my favorite part of the trip!)
- We went through the Experience Music Project (a letdown. boo.)
- Pike's Market (gorgeous and very cool as well)
- Seattle Underground Tour (interesting...and a little weird)
- BYU Football fireside Friday night (tons of people, but very good and neat to hear the players speak and sing)
- The big game, which was great considering they won. (Barely.)
- Seeing Tyler and Stacy Henderson (always a treat!)
- Sitting in a Bentley. And a Ferarri. (Isn't it fun to have rich friends?)
- Eating tons of great seafood (clam chowder x2!!)
- Seeing lots of crazy public art around town
- Derrick meeting Ty Detmer (his absolute hero!)

Connecticut
Last weekend we went to CT for my dad's big retirement celebration. He served in the Coast Guard for 30 years, so it was a full on military ceremony. And you know what that means...I was a blubbering idiot throughout the whole thing. It was great though, with a great view. We ate lots, and played lots of games with all the family that came to celebrate as well. I gave my pops the super secret surprise I've been working on...my very first quilt! It wasn't perfect, but for my first quilt, I think I did ok! He seemed to like it, so I guess that's all that matters, right??

Saturday we were able to make it to New Haven. My friend Rosana, a former Yalie, still lives there and we were able to meet up. We were friends when I lived in PR....17 YEARS AGO. I haven't seen her since I was 10. It was so fun to see her again, and she was a great tour guide and showed us all around the Yale campus, which is beautiful. It was move-in weekend, so it was crazy busy with yuppies everywhere. Seriously, it was insane. Kids in their blazers and sweaters around their necks. It was like out of a movie. We grabbed lunch at this delicious Mexican place that Rose recommended, El Amigo Felix. My tostadas were soooo good. Man, I love Mexican food.
Now we're home for 3 days, and we head to Seattle on Thursdsay for the BYU game on Saturday. We're staying with the ever-gracious Maria & Skyler Thursday night, and then seeing the sights the rest of the weekend. Should be fun!
