Collect much?

I was cleaning out some closets this morning and came across a bunch of soap for Bath and Body Works. You know the stuff. Everyone has it. I like to stock up when it’s on sale and I have a coupon. My price point for buying these is around $1.50. It will always get that cheap at least once during the year, trust me, and I never buy them when they’re regular price. I like to have a variety of scents on hand for different seasons or to give as last minute gifts and whatnot. Well, I guess I’ve stocked up plenty because I found 3 different BBW bags filled with soap. 23 of them to be exact. Guess I don’t need to stock up anytime soon, eh? Let’s hope these things don’t have an expiration date!

So then I started thinking about what other things I have a lot of, and lip products immediately came to mind. I have somewhat of an obsession with them. I’ve been addicted to Chapstick since I was a wee girl with chapped purple lips, and that has spawned an entire addiction. So I pulled out my drawer of lip products and decided to catalog them. Mind you, I did not hunt all over the house for strays, so there are more lurking around here somewhere.  DSC_6542 I have an entire soda fountain of chapsticks; Dr. Pepper (love the subtle color), Mt. Dew (I bought this with Scott in mind), Cherry Pepsi, and Cherry 7-Up. All delicious. The mint Chapstick is my #1 go-to. You’ll see I also have an extensive collection of Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush lip glosses on the right. These are divine. Sheer color with yummy flavors.

I could probably have dozens more pictures like this of other things I have. And let’s just keep the hoarding comments to ourselves, shall we? I just happen to enjoy variety and enjoy having choices. I don’t collect empty boxes of pasta or broken records or anything. Everything I have is 100% useful and relevant to my life.

Why am I already defending myself? You know you have your stashes too!!!!

Girl Power!

We had our ultrasound this evening and it looks like Derrick will continue to be outnumbered! Another girl!! I thought it may have been a boy since I was feeling so different than last time but nope! Summer gets a little sister! We are super excited. And it’s nice because we already have everything we need for a girl!

Here are some pictures of our little girl!

The classic profile pictures. In the first one it looks like her thumb is on her nose. "Neener, neener, neener!” Oh man, it’s already beginning!

And the scary alien skeleton baby picture. I debated even posting this one, because it seriously freaks me out. Yikes.

Trying not to get too excited yet….

But yes, that’s ME in the NUMBER ONE position in one of the pools I’m in! I’ve never been this far ahead so late in the games.

From here on out I’m a big Duke fan (which is hard to do considering I’m a Tarheel Fan!) Here’s hoping Michigan St. and Duke make it to the final game! I have serious bragging rights riding on this. Oh, ok, lots of CA$H too!!

I hope I didn’t just jinx myself.

Tiny girl, or huge TV?

DSC_6507

I’m not sure why, but this picture cracks me up. She looks so leeeetle sitting there! She’s obviously mesmerized by the TV, since we don’t really ever let her watch it. So funny to me.

This picture also makes me realize how desperately our basement is in need of some decorating.

Bump, bump, bump

Here you go: me at 19 weeks prego. Please kindly overlook how tired and zombie-ish I look. I didn’t get to take my afternoon nap today. (Yes, I usually do take an afternoon nap. It’s heavenly.)DSC_6517 DSC_6526I think I felt it move today. Or maybe it was just gas. It’s hard to tell sometimes.

What we’ve been up to lately

March has indeed seen it’s share of Madness around here! We’ve been trying to keep busy, while at the same time trying to stay healthy. Summer was diagnosed with her first ear infection this week as well as a sinus infection and is now on a healthy dose of antibiotics. I’ve been battling a sore throat/runny nose combo for awhile now. Cold? Allergies? Who knows.

We had a super warm week last week and it almost felt like Spring with temps in the high 60’s!! Living in WI, of course, we know better than to get our hopes up, and sure enough, it snowed on Saturday.

I’ve been busy putting up Easter decorations and making new ones. Oh, and eating Easter candy. Crackbury Mini Eggs are sooo addicting. And Reese’s Eggs. Yum.

I bought these Easter letters at Hobby Lobby with the intent to paint and glitter them. (Of course!) But instead I decided to paint and cover them with scrapbook paper I already had. It was a good comprise, as the paper is glittered. :) (And look at that…watching Martha!)DSC_6506

And once I saw this banner over at MADE I knew I had to make it myself. Super quick and easy. I love that they’re marshmallow bunny look-a-likes. Too cute. And check out the finished letters.

I also got these plain wooden flowers at HL and painted them. I was going to glitter them, but I didn’t have the right colors and I was feeling too cheap to buy them at the moment. Derrick said “thanks.”

DSC_6513I also made a wreath out of lima beans--it’s super cute but I haven’t taken a picture of it yet. It’s spray painted orange and I plan to spray paint it a different color for each season.

We’ve been actively engaged in watching March Madness basketball as well. My bracket is doing pretty well, but since I picked Kansas (along with the rest of the free world) it will no doubt start to suffer. Summer’s is doing HORRIBLY. I chose her picks based on if the teams had the same letters in their names as “Summer”. Turning out to be not the greatest strategy. She was also rather upset when BYU lost in the 2nd round, as you can clearly see here:

DSC_6490Poor thing—already getting her dad’s bad habits about BYU wins and losses.

Other than that, we are just cruising right along. We find out what we’re having on MONDAY! That sure went quick. Although, I always said we would start painting the kids’ bedrooms once we found out, and now it’s here and I’m still not sure what colors I want to do. My mind is always changing. I’ve also got quite the bump rocking—I should post a picture.

Anyone else think Idol is a huge snoozefest this year?

That’s a wrap!

Our little leprechaun

This is a couple days late, but oh well. We had a good St. Patrick’s Day, even though Derrick wasn’t around for most of it. (Don’t worry, I sent him to work with mint brownies with little shamrock sprinkles, recipe courtesy of Our Best Bites.) We dressed in green, of course, and a sneaky little leprechaun dyed our milk green!

It was a gorgeous day so we went to McD’s for a Shamrock Shake and then hit up the park to play for a bit. And hey, how long has McD’s been making their shakes so gourmet looking??? Whipped cream and a cherry??? Last St. Patrick’s Day (which is probably the last time I ordered a milkshake from McD’s) it was just in a regular cup. Either way, it was delicious. Of course, Summer loved it and tried to steal it from me.

We had Irish Lamb Stew and Irish Soda Bread for dinner, which were both rather tasty. I don’t have very many green decorations, so of course I had to make some. Check out these letters:

DSC_6487

Making these letters is kind of an addiction for me. Derrick says pretty soon we’ll have the whole alphabet in random colors. Probably so! I made these while Maria was painting the Y.

And here’s a shot of the little leprechaun that indeed causes much mischief lately, always getting into things. She’s got some big ole’ molars coming in these days, so she’s a little more clingy than usual, a little more runny nose than usual, and a lot more diaper rash than usual. She still smiles and tells everyone she sees “hi” multiple times, so I’ll take it!

Y ask Y?

This past weekend Maria, my old roommate from BYU came to visit me! She lives in the Seattle area with her husband and 2 boys, and her husband Skyler was nice enough to stay home and let her come solo! Our main objective was to create a painting of the BYU logo for our basement. So we set out right away to get that done. We (she) used an overhead projector to trace the logo onto a canvas and then she used acrylic paint to finish it. I think it looks amazing!

We also managed to squeeze in a really fun Friday Fish Fry, complete with polka band. We had to wait for awhile, seeing as how it was Friday AND Lent, but it was worth it! We also hit up Five Guys Burgers and pretty much ate the whole weekend.

Maria is one of the kindest persons I know. She is always so quick to find the good in people. She never runs out of things to talk about and is just a fun person to be around. She’ll also quickly take care of any stray candy you may have laying around. ;) I’m so lucky to have had her as a roommate and to still consider her one of my very best friends! Love you Maria!

A week of warmth

Last week we headed to Phoenix to thaw out. Derrick has 2 siblings that live there and we stayed with his brother. The weather was b-e-a-utiful. Just what we needed in the middle of winter.

Highlights:

  • In-n-Out x2
  • Chick-fil-A
  • BJ’s Pizza
  • Sprinkles Cupcakes. Holy yum.
  • Going to the pool x2
  • Spring Training games x2
  • Playing Wii every night
  • Overdosing on strawberries and avocadoes
  • Going to the train park
  • Going to the Children’s museum (although that’s a debatable lowlight---what a germfest.)
  • Eating David’s waffles. DELICIOUS. Now I need Belgian waffler. STAT.
  • Seeing our friends the Wilson’s and my old roomie Laura for like, the quickest visits ever.

Lowlights:

  • Summer having diarrhea for 3 days
  • Summer’s diarrhea causing multiple blowouts, including one at Sweet Tomatoes where it launched out of the top of her diaper onto the highchair and then plopped down onto the carpet. GROSS.
  • The day of rain that cooled things off a bit
  • Our flight home being delayed
  • Frontier airlines sending our gate checked stroller to the carousel where the wheels snapped off and they wouldn’t do anything about it and I was so tired and cranky because we stayed up so late every night and Summer was SO hard to tame on the plane and all I could do was call the baggage guy at the Frontier counter an A-hole. Not my finest moment. Or was it??

It was a fabulous trip, and just what we needed. We thought a week would be enough time to do and see everything and everyone, but there were SO many people we wish we could have seen. Summer being sick kind of put a damper on things for a bit. Hopefully next time we can make it out to see everyone. I hate being so close and not finding the time to see people. Oh well.

Onto the pictures!DSC_6115DSC_6362DSC_6380DSC_6451 DSC_6449 DSC_6116 DSC_6329 DSC_6273 DSC_6268 DSC_6265 DSC_6168 DSC_6149 DSC_6134

It’s in the bag

Tomorrow we’re going to sunny (although ugly) Phoenix. Temps in the 70’s, here we come!! For a whole week. Can’t wait!

This is Summer’s first flight being mobile and not nursing. Should be interesting. I hope she behaves herself! We’re not taking her car seat since my BIL has one for us to use and I didn’t want to take our huge stroller so we got a small umbrella stroller. And because I’m so anal about keeping it nice, even though it was only $40, I wanted to make a case for it, like the one I made for our other stroller.

Friday night at Kohl’s I found this weird tablecloth that had a hole in the middle and a zipper from the edge to the hole. After inspecting it for awhile I realized it was for a patio table with an umbrella. Good idea, right?DSC_6093 It was $3.99 marked down for $39.99! Plus our discount, it was way cheaper than buying fabric. Plus, free zipper included! I snatched it right up and knew it would be perfect for a bag.

So during naptime today I whipped this bad boy up. Easy peasy. And I love it. And now our stroller won’t get wet and nasty as it sits on the tarmac. And I feel like a sewing badass because I came up with it all by myself. :)
