Yesterday I got my very first notification ever that I am to serve jury duty. Actually, I'm just a reserve juror. I think the general consensus on jury duty is that it sucks, and nobody wants to do it. I, on the other hand, was kind of excited about it. But then, I also voluntarily sign up for surveys and telephone interviews. I also think it has something to do with the fact that in my mind I see the 12 of us in the deliberation room, hacking it out, and it being 11 other jurors against me, and with my powerful skills of persuasion I get them to change their minds, and ultimately save the defendant from a sentence of injustice. I emerge a superhero, people contact me to write a book, I become famous. See?? Sounds awesome already.
Plus, they actually pay you to do it. Yup. A whole 19 bucks a day. Which inevitably will go towards parking downtown.
Still, I think it would be neat to see how the whole process works. I probably won't even get called, but at least I will have attempted to fulfill my civic duty!!
I can't tell you how many times I've been summoned to jury duty and I've never had to do it (I was in school a few times, and then I think I was summoned once but I was breasfeeding like around the clock so I couldn't).
ReplyDeleteDude! I so did jury duty a few years ago and I sent that no good rat bastard to the klink!! FOR LIFE!! Not really, IDk I wasn't there for sentencing! But it was kind of fun though and it was $15 a day! You're like my brother except he love to watch Forensic Files so he'd love to send someone to jail for murder! It was easy to get picked you just don't sound retarded when they ask you questions and don't say that you trust cops over anyone else!
ReplyDeleteWhat is a reserve juror? When I got selected they brought in like 30 people and asked them questions and then chose 7 people including one backup. In FL there's only 6 jurors instead of 12 cause we're cheap! ;)
but I think you'll enjoy it but you'll probably be sitting around a long time just waiting.
