Nursey things

So I'm finally on the mom/baby floor. Yesterday I pretty much just followed my preceptor around like a little puppy dog. I didn't do too much, but I learned a lot. Today I took 2 patients (1 mom/1 baby) and did fine. Having an OB rotation just last month has really helped. I don't have to learn from the ground up. I know the skills, I just have to learn the hospital-specific stuff.

But check this out: Today a mom wanted us to give her the baby's very first wet diaper. Why, you ask? Because she wanted to rub the urine all over her body. I am NOT making this us. Um....yuck? Must be a cultural thing. She was Mexican. Although...so am I and I've never heard of anything like this. Weird.

The 12 hours went by faster that I thought they would. But I come home completely pooped.

I totally forgot to watch American Gladiators last night. Boo.

Derrick comes home tomorrow. Yay!

Well hey! At least she didn't want to eat the placenta!

I truly think the nurses in the Mom/Baby units have seen it ALL. You'll be all jaded and crap in no time!

Didn't you DVR Gladiators????

I usually keep my urine in a bottle so I can rub it all over me in the mornings.

You mean you don't do that?

Did you miss Gladiators last night because you were bathing in poop? Karen how many times do I have to tell you that that is not a social norm??? I know it's addicting but we all have to give up dreams every now and then.

Umm. . . so weird. I love hearing all the crazy stories that people who work in hospitals have so keep them coming.

YIKES!

By the way, just got your post on my blog it forward thing...you aren't a bad explainer. That is what I thought, til I read Josie's and then I thought I misunderstood! I just deleted that blog so that my girls won't think they have to give something to me. Thanks for commenting... did you mention that to Josie? Later!

Hmmm, very inspring. Perhaps I'll use both the urine and the feces. Seems like a delightful treat.
