Our desert apartment

Arizona has nothing on us. It is so doggone dry in here. I wake up during the night with my mouth stuck shut, it's so parched. I use so much lotion on my hands and body I should buy stock in Jergens. The other day I put two pieces of bread in the toaster but forgot to start the toaster. Not one hour later I go to put the bread back in the bag and it's hard as a rock. Like, already toast! We received 3 beautiful mini rose bushes for Summer's birth, and they are turning crispy and dying. It makes me sad. I really wanted these roses to live. I water them, trying to keep the soil moist, but I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. It breaks my heart to see these flowers die. Is it something I'm doing, or is it just not in these poor flowers' cards to have a fulfilling life in Wisconsin? Sara, Nikki-my go-to flower gals-anyone, help me out! What can I do to save these withering plants??

I think it's not the dry, it's the cold.

At least you got to enjoy your flowers! When I had Zara someone sent me a BEAUTIFUL bouquet, and when we left the hospital I FORGOT IT!!

Have your next baby during the summer!! (Not THIS summer!)

If you didn't have a cozy newborn who just recently left her 98.6 degree 9 month soak in a hot tub, I would recommend turning down your heat. In this awful weather, it seems like the heater runs all the time. So my skin and everything keeps getting drier and drier and drier with hot air running all day. But if you turn your heat down, then, "in theory" it will run less and dry you out less.

However, I too have a baby that I don't want to freeze, so we choose to keep our thermostat at a toasty 70 at night and 72 during the day. (Way to hot for me to sleep in, but she sleeps better when she's warmer. So I relent.)

Anyway, that suggestion is probably not very helpful. But, you could put the plants in your bathroom on the counter. At least in there, they would get some more exposure to humidity with the shower running, etc.

I'm not really a gardener, but I've done it with some of my plants before. And it seemed to work.
