Valentine's Day

First, thanks for voting, and for all your comments on the last post! I've learned of 4 stalkers, and now I have 4 new blogs to read! No shame in stalking...you know we all do it! And if you haven't voted b/c you're too lazy to click on my blog from Google Reader, shame on you.

I love February. Mostly b/c it's my birthday month, but also b/c of Valentine's Day, which means lots of pink and red. I have Valentine's Day decorations, but for some reason they always get forgotten and never put out, and that makes me so sad.

Valentine's Day may be a commerical, "Hallmark holiday", but what's not to love about it? You get an extra excuse to show how much you love someone. And it doesn't have to be a significant other, you can celebrate your love for your family or friends. Don't be a VD (hmmm....interesting coincidence of initials...) hater just b/c you don't have a boy/girlfriend.

One of my favorite Valentine's Days was when Derrick and I had just started dating, and we went up to Salt Lake City and walked around the Olympic Village (obviously in 2002). We had dinner at Z Tejas where I gave Derrick my gift of concert tickets to Styx and REO Speedwagon. I was such an awesome girlfriend. :) He gave me roses, that he and Sterling got at some warehouse at an apparently unbelievable price. What wasn't so unbelievable was how they were dead the next day. You get what you pay for, boys!

One of my favorite things about Valentine's Day are Luv Pops. Big cherry flavored suckers. Not those crappy wimpy tiny cherry suckers, these are hefty and thick and delicious. Wait...are we still talking about suckers?? Anyway, they are IMPOSSIBLE to find. I found them at Wal-Greens a couple years ago, but haven't found them since. Except online, and even then I'm not convinced they're the right ones.

If anyone comes across these, snag me a bag. I'll pay you back, and maybe even let you have one.

I'm not sure when we started doing this, maybe right after we got married, but instead of going out for dinner on Valentine's Day, we make fondue at home. Usually beef and chicken and then chocolate for dessert. I'm thinking of adding cheese to the mix this year. It's cheaper than going out, and easier than getting a reservation. We usually watch a movie while we eat, and it's lots of fun and really delicious. Oh, and sometime during the night the Valentine fairy dyes our milk pink.

Anybody want to share what they do for Valentine's Day? And let's keep it clean, kids!

My mom always made us waffles with strawberries and whipped cream for breakfast on Valentine's Day. I've continued the tradition with my family. One cool thing is Valentine's Day is our 1/2 year anniversary (Whitney's too- they got married the same day as us!), so it gives us an extra excuse to celebrate.

Fondue sounds like fun....you'll have to tell me what movie you end up watching! Those luv pops sound really yummy...although I am a chocolate lover...

I think Jared is actually planning something for a date this year...I hope so!

Summer is a doll...how much is she weighing these days? Nursing going well?

I just saw those Luv Pops at Walgreens. If they are still there do you want me to pick them up for you?
