Friday Derrick took the day off and we tackled our first home improvement project together: painting. Neither one of us has any real painting experience, but I watch so much freaking HGTV I’m essentially a pro in my mind. We got the paint and primer all in one and two coats and 8 hours later we were done! It’s far from perfect, but for our first real painting job, I think it looks fantastic. Plus, we didn’t fight and we still liked each other at the end of the day! Bonus.
Before: A sea of orange
After: Cool, calming gray
What do you think??

Yes the gray is much better than that orange. Wow, that was orange!
Your house is more decorated after a week than mine is after almost 6 years! Very nice!
HATE IT!
Just kidding. Way better than the orange for sure. I never thought I would do gray on my walls, but you and another friend are changing my mind. It looks great.
I love it! And yes I am too impressed with your speedy decorating.
Love it! It's a great shade with your fireplace. It's "cool" withs the room is still warm with the carpet and wood. And yes, awesome decorating. You're amazing.
Its starts with a can of paint...and before long you'll be walking the isles of Home Depot trying to figure out where in the world you would put a table saw if you actually bought it. It's a slippery slope!
Love the gray! You picked a great shade.
You should paint the doors and moldings white now, or some other off white color (because you probably hate just white or you would have done it already)...and by the way the table saw goes between the radial-arm saw and the 55 gallon air compressor

Oh my gosh, this is funny. I saw the orange picture and didn't read the "before" and though, wow...she really painted that orange, I'm not sure about that....yeah, it looks way better after. I think I agree with branbury that white or cream trim would really sharpen it up. Could bring out the seating in your dining table. Ah I have to visit you! It must feel so nice to just sit down in your BIG HOUSE!!!
That's amazing. How great is paint!!
Wow-- that gray looks awesome. I totally dig it. And I totally feel like you do-- a pro, simply because I watch so much HGTV. You really did a great job, btw. Congrats on the house.
Gotta admit that orange wasn't so bad in my book - 70s color schemes are back... but I probably would have gotten rid of it too. These decisions get hard when you have to live with them every day. The orange amped up the Lannon stone of the fireplace. Your grey is more formal, tasteful and the ultimate neutral - safe. And it looks great against your walnut dining set. I wouldn't paint the woodwork white, but I'd throw in something big and bright and warm to create a focal point... above the fireplace? On the table?
Karen, that was me - Kathy - I don't know how to leave a comment - duh. Let's try again.
