Firstly, thanks so much for your kind comments on my last post. I thought for sure I’d get at least one comment on my previous post, but nothing! Usually my anonymous posters come out of hiding with a post dealing with wieners. :) Either way, it was nice to hear some reassuring and reaffirming words from some dear friends.

We got back last night from a trip to Texas to see my family and go to the BYU/UT game. I took amazing pictures of Derrick and I on the field at UT, pictures of us with Bevo their longhorn mascot, a picture with me and the Chick-fil-A cow mascot, pictures with friends from BYU, pictures with cousins, and pictures with Hannah meeting my grandmother for the first, and hopefully not last, time.

And all of those pictures are with my camera, which I left on the airplane in Atlanta before our connecting flight. i didn’t realize until that plane had already left. I ran back, sick to my stomach, crying the whole way. The Airtran worker said he would call the next city and check the plane when it came back to Atlanta for me, and I gave him my contact information. I called Atlanta this morning and nobody has turned anything in. I’m so, so, so, so sad. Not so much for the camera itself, but for the pictures. Like, I’m literally devastated and so depressed about it.

The girls were angels on the flights down but devils on the flights home. It was a horrible ending to an otherwise good trip.

The worst part is Derrick asking me repeatedly if we had everything and me saying yes. And me being so worked up about our crazy kids that I missed the multiple times I almost realized something was missing. So many times I could tell the spirit was trying to tell me something but I was filled with too much negativity to let it penetrate. I’m probably most disappointed in myself about that. That, and I just hate doing stupid things.

In the end, I have to keep telling myself it’s just a camera and that it could be worse. But it’s so hard…I just love pictures so much.

Though this is AWFUL, I have a feeling you are going to have a bunch of posts with similar stories. Will it make you feel better? Probably not...just know that many of us have done the same thing and feel your pain. My story: Nick and I and the kids went to the circus. He brought his camera. We both used it. Pictures of kids with clowns (Erin was in love with them at the time), pics of kids riding an elephant, family pics of us enjoying the circus. Nick kept asking me to put the camera back in the case. I thought I gave him the camera back before we left, he thought I had it. Anyway, went back after 20 minutes when we realized that neither had it and it was long gone. I even tried Craigslist requesting just the card back...no questions asked...no such luck. You are so right, the loss of the pictures/memories hurt the worst...more than the camera. The saddest thing is that people are so dishonest today. You and I would return a lost precious item, not so for the majority of the world. My heart hurts for you!

honestly nothing is worse than losing pictures. i always have to think back about what was actually on them too...."did i take any 'before' pics of me in my swimming suit?" or something ridiculous like that!

I'm so sorry to hear this, Karen! I feel your pain. But I have a feeling you will take many more pictures in your lifetime, to make up for it! Hang in there.

PS I LOL'ed big time about the Phallics post! Just in case you wondered!

Karen I am SOOOOOOOO sorry!!! My similar story (besides losing 6 mo. of photos on teh computer) is letting Eliza hold my camera at the bowling alley. She handed it back to my by throwing it next to my hand, onto the floor. It broke and my memory card was corrupted. Lost unique family gathering pictures where I was the ONLY one with a camera. It was heartbreaking. I just have to not think about it. Like I am now. Gee , thanks!!

The Silver lining is that you can now upgrade to the new DSLRs that shoot awesome HD video too!

Though I think the Nikons are a little weak on the HD video front compared to the Canons. The Canon T3i is pretty suite!

So sorry Karen, I could cry for you. Really, you just lived through one of my nightmares. At least you lived. Get better soon :)

Suck it up-It's much worse to lose your wallet...before you know it someone is gassing up their new BMW that they just leased using your identity, shopping at kohl's with a store credit card that they just applied for in your name, buying and leasing timeshares in Cabo, and buying viagra online with your AMEX. You can buy a new camera, take more pictures, yada yada yada, but how do you explain multiple adult toy purchases to the hindu credit card customer service lady in shri lanka

Atlanta STINKS like that! I was flying with Ash when he was a year and a half. I brought the mini DVD player and a whole Costco sized collection of Baby Einstein DVDS as well as 5 or so of my faves, just in case he fell asleep and I could watch what I wanted to watch. I had a connection in Atlanta. Accidently left a whole case of my DVD's on the plane. Realized it when I got to CA. Called on it and checked on it multiple times. The airline told me, "well, we try to hire honest people and if it were any other city you would probably get it back, but you most likely won't see it again." Nice, huh!
