Summer turned 5 before I knew what was happening. She requested donuts for her birthday breakfast and Noodles & Co. for lunch. For dinner we went just as a family to Chuck E. Cheese for pizza and games. Since it was a Thursday night, the place was practically empty. Perfect. She wanted a mermaid birthday party, so a mermaid party she got. I made her a mermaid cupcake cake, which was huuuuge, but turned out pretty cute. I made and frosted white mermaid sugar cookies, which the girls at her party decorated with edible markers. Then we had them step into trash bags and duct taped their waist and ankles and had them “swim” on the floor towards the buried treasure. It was hilarious. No party is complete without a pinata, and Derrick braved his knuckles and the family jewels by holding it up on the sofa. Some of those girls can swing pretty hard! It was a fun little party, and it was a fun week of celebrating our sweet and sassy Summer.
