Summer had her 2 week appointment today, on the coldest day of the year, of course. I was curious to see how much weight she gained, thinking she would be around 6 lb 4 oz or so. Boy, were we surprised to hear she had jumped from 5 lb 13 oz at her last appointment to a whopping 6 lb 15 oz! An 18 oz gain in 8 days! Guess I'm producing nothing but the good stuff! She's in the 14% for weight. She did grow a half inch, now 19.5", in the 22% for length, and her noggin grew 4 cm to 36.5 cm, now in the 66% for head circumference. So, little body, big head. But a cute head.
I pumped for the first time today, to try and get Summer used to taking a bottle for when I go back to work. Or just go out. I felt a little bit like a cow, but man is pumping quick and easy! I'm almost tempted to just feed her that way, but I do love the time we get to spend together breastfeeding, even if she hurts me sometimes. Anyway, here is Derrick feeding Summer for the first time. He was a natural. And isn't this the sweetest picture?
We got a video camera today, so be on the lookout for videos of Summer coming to to a blog near you. She does all sorts of exciting things, like sleep, lay there, sleep, look around, sleep, grunt when she poos, and sleep. Really quite riveting stuff. I'm sure you'll find it as fascinating as we do!

My kids all have big heads too. And they're all quite brilliant. Glad things are going well. I still need to come meet her. Maybe when it warms up a bit.
she is so freakin' cute. and way to start her early on the bottle... max NEVER took one. for eleven long months -- no bottle, not ever.
What pump do you have? Mine was such a pain - I hated pumping - but I will be in your spot in two months....any recommendations?
I had the DOUBLE pump. I had six weeks, and it was back to work with the first two. And yes, I felt like a cow. But it was for a good cause.
Karen, don't think of her head as big until she's in the 105% (I didn't even know they went over 100% with those calculations). My poor little girl has a very large "brain"! I swear I have multiple skull and facial fractures from her overzealous kisses and hugs!
She's beautiful and it sounds like she is doing great. Gotta stop by soon and bring you the Baby Bjorn!
I have to say when we came to visit, Derrick was super cute, so fatherly! It melted my heart.
People with big heads are the best.
Pumps are life savers! I like having "the good stuff" too :) Here's to big babies...maybe
