I was straightening up Summer's room so that's it's inhabitable this weekend (Summer's baby blessing--my family and my MIL are coming) and found the Bumbo seat. I have no idea how early they can start sitting in it, but I put her in it for a few minutes anyway. She was up high, sitting in her crib, looking around and started smiling at me!! The first extended period of pure smiles and almost laughs. Enough to melt a mama's heart! I started snapping away, of course.
She started to get a little cranky after a few minutes so I decided it was time to get dressed and ready for the day before she goes down for her 2nd nap. Typical procedure: vitamins first, then wash face, hands, and neck. Then inspect fingernails. A couple look like they need to be trimmed, so I grab the clippers and clip a couple fingernails. I clip her thumbnail and instantly realize I clipped her skin, not her nail. Her face crumples up and tears spring to her eyes, face red. My heart breaks. I've hurt my child! I clean it up and put some anti-bacterial ointment on it and wrap it up, all the while apologizing to her and cuddling her. I feel absolutely awful. I'm hoping by this evening it won't hurt and she'll have forgotten all about it. Still, I feel terrible. Look at this face. And poor thumb. So sad.

We have all done it, don't worry.. and think what do you remember before say the age of 4? Probably not much.. there is a reason for this :)
Very cute smiley pictures by the way!
It happens to the best of us. She will forgive you, don't worry. Super cute smiles! She is quite the model!
She is so cute. She has a great smile! (and yup, I have done it too. Their nails are so soft it is hard to always tell.)
Wow, what a charmer!I love the giggly faces. She's so darling Karen! Sorry for the heartbreaking thumb injury, she looks like she is really sucking it up in the last picture. What a tough cookie.
SOOOO Cute! WHat a beauty..and don't worry about the nail..we all do it :) Her crib is so cute too
I have clipped both of my girls fingernails within their first month or so of life. Their nails are so thin! Oh and I loved taking pictures of Camryn in the Bumbo. I think it really makes them look grown up.
Awww...beautiful smiles! Yes, I cut my first one too around the same age. When I had a Devin, a nurse in the birthing center told me to bite their nails off when they are really little--the nails are soft and come off very easily! I was quite shocked but I tried it and would do it while he was nursing. Kind of gross to some (I'm a nail biter anyway, so I had loads of practice!)and probably not the most hygenic way, but it worked and I never clipped him once! :)
Summer is darling. Way to capture those smiles!
AW--we've all done it, and we always feel like MAJOR DORKS afterwards. But she won't remember how your tortured her. Don't worry.
