Sir Paul!!

Ever since I was 11 I’ve been in love with The Beatles. My friend Melissa and I would listen to them every chance we got, and we had a little notebook that we would collect anything Beatles related we came across. We were big time nerds, (as if it wasn’t already obvious) and had a list of every Beatles song, arranged alphabetically, of course.

I was so bummed knowing that I would never hear all four Beatles perform live, and when George died in 2001 my hopes of seeing even the remaining trio perform together went out the window. So the second, and I mean second, I heard Paul McCartney was coming to Milwaukee this summer I was on the phone to Derrick and said we were going. He did not object. He is a smart man.

Our friends Nick and Patty, also Beatles lovers, wanted to go too so we decided to go together. Patty scored us the tickets and all we had to do was wait!

July 16th finally rolled around and I was so flippin’ excited. Nick gave us a Paul McCartney Live CD which we listened to to get us ready. I was more than ready.

It was hotter than Satan’s jockstrap that day. We were all dripping with sweat the entire night. We got there around 7:30, with the show scheduled to start at 8. He didn’t go on until 9:30!!! I’m guessing he wanted to wait until it cooled off a bit? Either way, it was kind of annoying to have to wait that long, but let’s be honest, I’d wait 10 hours if I had to.

And then he came out. And played Eight Days a Week. And I bawled like a baby. Straight up cried my eyes out. He sounds the exact same as he did when he was with the Beatles. There was a drummer and two other guitarists up there and honestly it could have been them. It sounded like them, and in my excited and overwhelmed little brain I just couldn’t handle it. It was a dream come true. Truly. It was amazing. He played a handful of Wings song, and a tribute to Jimi Hendrix which was really cool. And every time he did a Beatles song I cried. I cried through the entire concert. No joke.

We had a really fun time with Nick & Patty, and I think we all lost a few pounds sweating inside Miller Park. One of the best nights of my life. 

These pictures don’t really do it justice, but we had pretty decent seats. There were HUGE HD screens on either side of the stage, so that was nice. Beatlemania or bust!
