So we got in late last night and picked up our rental car. A Prius. Sweeeet. I was super excited to try it out. 50 mpg! Especially nice since we're driving back and forth from Denver to Colorado Springs, or "The Springs" as they call it here. We stayed with Shannon and Tim last night in Parker, which is a way cool little suburb. Their house is beautiful, and we had a great time just chatting away. I saw a Sonic on the way to their house, so it didn't take long before Shannon and I left for a late night snack! So far my Cherry Limeade count is up to 2. They also have Waffle Houses here!! Derrick has never been, and it's been ages since I've been. Hopefully we can hit up a nice greasy breakfast while we're here. Hashbrowns covered and smothered. De-lish.
We left Parker this morning for Colorado Springs to take a cog train up to Pike's Peak. We were supposed to meet the rest of the wedding party, but they failed to let us know they moved up the time, so they took the 10am train and we took the noon train by ourselves. It was still cool, though. There are tons of Aspen trees, which I looove. Plus, they're all this intense shade of yellow, and it's awesome. I don't know why I love Aspens so much. Random. At the top of Pike's Peak they drop you off for about an hour and you can walk around and take pictures and go inside and buy expensive souvenirs. As we got higher and higher it got colder and colder. And it was fa-REEZING at the summit. And ridiculously windy. It was 27 degrees WITHOUT the windchill, so who knows exactly how cold it was. Pretty neat, though.
Then we went to the rehearsal dinner at Tara's sponsor family's house, and had delicious BBQ. Derrick didn't know anyone except for Brian and his parents and siblings, and I only knew Brian. We had met Tara only once before. So, needless to say, it was just us hanging out with ourselves, with the occasional convo with a curious family member.
Now we're just back at our motel room, with its fully equipped kitchen. Seriously, has a full sized fridge, mircowave, toaster, stove, coffee maker, and sink. Too bad we won't be using it! Waffle House is calling our names!!!
Our train
At the summit. You can't tell, but we're shaking from the cold.
Derrick passing out from lack of oxygen.
Derrick and the groom, Brian.
And because I'm just now uploading it, a picture of the peach pie I made a few weeks ago, recipe courtesy of Rose's Kitchen. You can't tell me that's not a good-looking pie!
