Hannah had been saying she wanted a “Simba party” for months. So a Simba party she got! We invited her little friends from her church class and one girl and FOUR boys showed up for a party the day before her actual birthday. Which is our actual anniversary. Let me just say right now, for the record, I will be more than okay if our next (and last) child is a girl. Boys are INSANE.
For the activities, we decorated foam crowns, rustled up some grubs (plastic bugs) in the sand box (why I thought 8 3-year-olds playing in sand would be a good idea is beyond me—I think every kid went home with sand in their hair…and no bugs), played pin the tail on the lion, and hit the lion pinata. We had pizza, carrots, and jungle animal Jell-O jigglers for dinner, and rainbow chip cupcakes with Lion King stickers as the decorations on top. Which the UPS man delivered right at the party was starting. Talk about last minute decorating!
I think everyone had fun. Thank goodness for the extra adult help we had…there’s no way we could have wrangled all those kids by ourselves!!
The next day, on her actual birthday, we went to the state fair. We ate our usuals—flavored milks, grilled cheese, deep fried PB&J, cream puffs, roasted corn, and tried a new Thanksgiving waffle. It was actually pretty good! We rode the giant slide, and Hannah was thrilled that she got to go down all by herself! I’m just impressed she did it without toppling over! We played Bingo and saw the animals and somehow got talked into letting them ride the ferris wheel at $5 a pop. Derrick wasn’t about to risk his life twice in one week, so we recruited Papa to take the girls. They had a blast. I think she was sufficiently all funned out! That night she requested Chili’s for her birthday dinner. She wasn’t quite sure what to think when they brought out her brownie and ice cream.
Hannah, while an absolute crazy person sometimes, is still so sweet and snuggle. She will often come up to one of us and ask to snuggle (although it’s rarely me). She loves candy and asks for it frequently. She is constantly hungry and will ask for a “snaaaaack” 5 minutes after breakfast. She is a tiny little thing but she has a big voice when she needs one. She loves her big sister and will usually want to do whatever Summer is doing or wear whatever Summer is wearing. She loves Tessa and takes the role of big sister very seriously. We just love this little pipsqueak. Now that Summer is in half day pre-kindergarten, I have been enjoying the one on one time I get with her. She’s really funny…I think she is destined to be the class clown.
