San Antonio

Saturday morning we dropped Derrick off at DFW so he could fly to LA for the week for work and I drove  with the girls down to San Marcos to my parents’ house. They had a whole week of fun lined up for his and first on the list was a local Jamaica (pronounced ha-my-cuh), which is just a big church fundraiser disguised as a big Mexican party. Plenty of delicious food and Tejano music (deejayed by my uncle, incidentally). The girls loved their cotton candy and slushies, and I loved the chalupas and agua frescas. My abuela was there, so I made the girls go up and say hi, even though they were pretty scared of her. I don’t blame them…she’s stopped wearing her teeth and came off a little scary, especially if you’re 3 and 4 years old! But, she’s 87 years old and she can pretty much do whatever she wants to do, including put in her teeth! She’s doing well, and it was good to see her and have her meet Tessa. 

Monday we went south to San Antonio, which I love. We went to the top of the Tower of the Americas, checked out the view, then did the 4D ride at the bottom. It was pretty herky jerky, and the girls got a little spooked at the 3D snake that jumped at them and the bull that snorted and sprayed us with water. But they had fun.

Then, somehow, 3 intelligent adults decided that it would be a good idea to walk 1+ miles over to the market square for lunch. Pushing two strollers. We were definitely ready for lunch by the time we got there! Mi Tierra didn’t disappoint, and I had delicious chiles rellenos, my favorite Mexican dish at the moment. Of course we got plenty of sweets at the bakery afterwards—can’t leave without a candied sweet potato!

We walked through the market and I bought the most adorable Mexican nativity set. Isn’t it the cutest thing you have ever seen???? Can’t wait to put it out this Christmas!

We made the long walk back to the car, but you can’t go to San Antone without seeing the Alamo! We literally took this as we walked in front of it. Remember the Alamo!!! It was a long, but very fun day!
